Something I'll never understand - if I want to make substantial enough changes to my house, it has to go through a neighbourhood consultation process, but someone on my block can buy a vehicle that significantly increases the chances one of my kids gets run over.
Which vehicles most endanger the drivers of other cars? Giant pickup trucks — and the Dodge Charger Source: www.iihs.org/news/detail/...
Probably the most difficult thing YIMBYs face -- really, anyone who lives in a city -- is that government-subsidized street parking is one of the single largest barriers to affordability, safe streets, and climate action. That's because drivers view it as an entitlement, like social security. 🧵
Cody, drops a truth bomb - "The cyclist’s sin is not that they slowed you down. Their sin is that they demonstrated the trip could be made without the two-ton machine, in front of witnesses." #yycbike medium.com/@cody.little...

John Cena conversing with Tweety bird? I will line up for this with the kids.

When you can’t find your camp kettle… all is NOT lost with a proper EV
Had a lovely IKEA dinner, my first time. Love the Swedish meatball theme. Fish & chips? NO it’s Cod Balls! Butter chicken? NO it’s Chicken Balls.
Let’s write uninformed performative letters to US government officials and threaten trade measures
Imagine that! Wildfire smoke that doesn’t respect borders or direction of travel 🙄🤦🏻♀️
If the province wanted to do something useful about bikes - they could legislate simple rules like this for what is and isn’t a bike for roads and bike lanes and paths #yycbike
#yycbike As we prepare to leave the daycare era behind after 8 solid years - good to know we leave it in good company!
In which an Urban Arrow is called “agile” and “zippy” 😂 I guess everything is relative! Great review of Bunch
*Bunch Bike Review* Now that we've owned our @bunchbike.com e-cargo bike for some time, I wanted to write a threaded review of my thoughts and experience. This will no doubt leave out many details that others will wonder about, but I hope some of you will get useful information here. 1/
@yegbike.bsky.social @bikecalgary.bsky.social Can we get a form that sends positive responses to the Minister and local MLA based on postal code or something?
Also a total mystery why Canadian provinces aren’t purchasing US liquor.

If it does end up having a Taco Bell link - the jokes will get orders of magnitude worse

Coming soon to Alberta, no doubt. Tech and markets alone aren't sufficient for energy transition - as both can be overcome by poor policy and law.
Colorado will decide whether a "right to natural gas" is added to state constitution
The amendment would restrict building codes that promote electrification.

If the Argentines hadn’t won, the World Cup semis would’ve been entirely France and adjacent countries
"We are trying to have CNN go on a normal path." It should make everyone's blood run cold to hear the brazenness of Trump's feeling of power & control over a *news org* (as David Ellison waits in the wings to bring the hammer down w/the Paramount/WBD merger). 📺 t2m.co/2wQ6GkdK
TAPPER: I know you don't want to talk about any other issues out of respect for Lindsey Graham, but we would love to have you back sometime bc I do have a lot of other questions TRUMP: Sure. We're trying to have CNN go on a normal path T: I'm on a normal path right here, sir TRUMP: Good. You are.
In which a sitting US opposition (Dem) senator thinks Canadians are being unreasonable for, let me get this right, not buying US wine when the US President has repeatedly threatened Canada’s sovereignty and has imposed sector-killing illegal tariffs on multiple Canadian industrial sectors? Right.
Uh-oh. (luckily we’d just made it up the Shaganappi Hill and were 2 blocks from home - but even then, pedaling an Urban Arrow without the motor and 40 lbs of kid is a workout!) #yycbike
#yycbike Good news: the 5th St cycle track around 12 Ave water main construction has had its “barrier” restored nicely. Bad news: the 12 Ave cycle track sinkholes still there and getting worse. Time to email @natefor8.bsky.social ?
#yycbike absolute animals on my commute today - how was traffic for you?
New piece at the Globe and Mail! Despite their reputation, young people aren't more spendthrift than past generations. They drink less, they smoke less, they spend less on clothes, and housing takes up an increasing amount of their income. Read here:
Despite their reputation as spendthrifts, today’s young adults are quite frugal
Older generations have logged the largest rises in spending in recent years, Statistics Canada survey shows

Unimpressed with the apparently Mom and Pop parking operator at Holy Cross Surgical in Calgary. Not AHS Parking, no website/app to pay at, no HTTPS support on website (www.hpark.ca), and despite prominent (ex-Impark?) signage about "Pay by Phone" no method to do so. Be warned 1/
Spotted at Fort Qu’Appelle Coop. (1 block away the Museum has 2 destination chargers, the Post office a 3rd, and the nearby Little Black Bear FN owned gas bar has 2x 250 kW shared ChargePoint L3). EVs and chargers are everywhere unlike my pre 2024 road trips here.
How bad are the skeeters in Saskatchewan? Exhibit A: I tapped my windshield from the inside to smash one, and cracked it ;) (Very likely a filled chip on outside created a weak spot. Inside is smooth, crack is on exterior)
