Thrilled to see the book “A Geopolitical Europe in the Making?” out! My chapter on “Governing EU Enlargement Through Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism in South-Eastern Europe” shows how preventive counter-terrorism resembles EU state-building strategies in its enlargement policy.

The EU Commission just unveiled its ReArm Europe Plan, including a new loan-based instrument "Security Action for Europe" (SAFE) of €150 billion. Interestingly, with SAFE, the Commission seems to try and combine two pandemic-era EU instruments into one: SURE and RRF. Quick thread:

Völlig egal welche Programme Parteien vorlegen, es kommt nur eine Frage: Migration. Immer nur Migration. Als gäbe es keine Klimakrise, keinen Krieg in Europa, keine Krise der Wirtschaft und Sozialsysteme, keinen Autokraten im Weißen Haus. Ein medialer Diskurs als Steigbügelhalter der Rechtsextremen.
