Illinois handled 25% of ALL out-of-state abortions last year. That’s 35,000+ people crossing state lines just to get care. The Chicago Abortion Fund fielded 16,000+ calls and no one was turned away. That's holding the line.
Nearly 25% of All Out-of-State Abortions Took Place in Illinois Last Year: Study
About 35,000 out-of-state patients traveled to Illinois for an abortion last year, accounting for 39% of all abortions provided in the state, according to a recent study.

Picking the right door as a young Black person can be a matter of life or death. A lower-stakes example: I tell people who are nervous about canvassing their neighborhood to start with the people who have signs indicating similar values. Gestures matter if they help us find each other.
Obviously this is a dipshit opinion. But since I sometimes see people on the left rolling their eyes about those signs, I just want you all to know that the other night some lost Black teens came to our house after taking the wrong bus and we were able to get them home. Why’d they pick us? Signs.
My latest published in @truthout.org and the @theappeal.org. Delaney Hall detainees: “We deserve to be free and to complete the process at home with our families. We demand freedom, a fair trial, and for our rights to be respected.”

Every time we criminalize anything to do with girlhood or womanhood, Black women become targeted. Look at who is most likely to die since reproductive justice has been criminalized. "Black mothers living in banned states were more than three times as likely to die as White mothers in those states"
great piece from incarcerated writer ian valencia about how prison rape jokes help obscure and normalize violence behind bars. the latest from the @chicagoreader.com's inside voices series:

Jokes about prison sexual assault have long been prevalent in popular culture; not only are they flippant, but they also hide the bigger picture.

Black girls are already adultified in schools-being seen as older, less innocent & more sexualized. Bans on trans girls are going to catch cis Black girls in hypersurveillance & hyperpunishment. Protect trans girls and kids. Protect Black girls. Fight against trans bans. Fight for trans kids

This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will. It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.

the entire pjm power grid, which spans 13 states and serves 65 million residents from chicago to new jersey, is facing a huge spike in demand thanks to this heat dome. this is almost surely compounded by a rash of energy-guzzling data centers that have come online in recent years.
Why are western burbs and certain Chicago nhoods being asked to conserve energy?
If you look at Des’s face and think they look like a lovely human being, you are 100% correct. Absolute sweetheart who deserves none of this. None of them do.
A cartoonist named Daniel "Des" Rolando Sanchez Estrada was tried as a terrorist and sentenced to 30 years in prison for having anti-Trump comics in his car. Prosecutors connected him to a 2025 anti-ICE protest he didn't even attend because he was in the same book club as others who were.

The “air conditioning debate” is a climate culture war started by center-right and liberal commentators, which drives attention away from the existential need to phase out fossil fuels. Try not to get swept along (as I am right now lol) but stick to the message: govt action to end coal, oil, & gas

Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming. Vital reporting from @ellenbarry.bsky.social and Jason DeParle:
