Today is VJ (Victory in Japan) Day, marking the anniversary of the date that Japan announced its surrender in WW2. Today we reflect on all the British Armed Forces who fought to protect our country. For their bravery, their determination and their sacrifices. We will remember them.

This month's column is out in the Ormskirk Advertiser. My focus for this month was some of the changes that Andy Burnham has announced so far as Prime Minister, including the £2 bus fare cap, VAT on electricity bills being abolished this winter & the review of adult social care being brought forward

This week, I walked the beat with Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw and local officers in Burscough. 👮🚨 It was great to hear about the proactive and preventative approach that Lancashire police are taking in Burscough.

The Government is investing in mental health services across the country & three community mental health centres are coming to Lancashire and South Cumbria Trust. I've written to Aaron Cummings, CEO of Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB, to implore him to prioritise West Lancs in this decision-making.

Great news that families visiting Ormskirk Morrisons Café can enjoy a free ‘Kellogg’s Breakfast’ across EVERY school holiday in 2026. Simply visit Ormskirk Morrisons Café and ask for a ‘Kellogg’s Breakfast’.

I’m really pleased that today, Labour has announced plans to give councils and communities more power over the high street. Vape shops and adult gaming centres won't be able to just pop up without local people having a say first.

This government is committed to giving you breathing space from the cost of living. Two new announcements: putting an end to phoney bargains and making it easy to leave subscriptions. Let me know what you want to see to give you more breathing space from the cost of living 👇

Update on Dial-a-Ride from West Lancashire Borough Council. I'm pleased that progress is being made on restoring community transport in West Lancs. However I, like all of you, await further details of what exactly this will look like and how it will compare to Dial-a-Ride.

Letter from West Lancashire Borough Council to Ashley Dalton MP about Dial-a-Ride services.

Summary: Following the closure of Dial a Ride, work has been carried out to assess options for restoring community transport in West Lancashire, but challenges around premises, vehicles, costs and operational requirements mean the previous model cannot be reinstated. Despite these difficulties, discussions with partners remain positive, and the Lancashire Transport Consortium is exploring a new community transport service operating one day per week. Subject to final arrangements, the service is expected to launch in September 2026.Summary: Funding remains available for community transport in West Lancashire, and partners are exploring how best to use these resources to deliver maximum benefit for residents. The aim is to establish an initial service and, depending on demand, funding and capacity, consider expanding it over time. Any long-term solution will be shaped by local needs, with opportunities for residents to help inform routes and service design, while partners continue working towards a sustainable and lasting service.

🆕 Funding decisions for training and qualifications to be made closer to home. I'm excited that this Labour Government is giving Lancashire the power to decide how to use its portion of the Adult Skills Fund to deliver on the area’s needs.

Congratulations to Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB for the 'biggest improvement' in early-stage diagnosis rates across England 👏 Early diagnosis saves lives, which is why I wrote it in as a key part of the National Cancer Plan. It’s brilliant to see delivery on this plan happening already.

Ashley Dalton MP stood giving a statement in the Chamber of Commons.

Education should be a passport - to work, to life, to further study. But too many young people are still being shut out. Everyone deserves an education that matches their high ambitions, not a one‑size‑fits‑all straitjacket. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

We must end this one-size-fits-all approach to education

Our school system has become too single-minded and is stopping children reaching their potential, says the education secretary

"With the right support and opportunities, we can help equip the next generation with the tools they need not just to cope, but to thrive." - Bev Roberts, About the Town. I'm thrilled that I secured the funding for #HashtagGirls, which will help so many girls in the local area.

PCC funding endorsement About the Town. “We’re incredibly grateful to Ashley Dalton MP for supporting our funding application for the #HashtagGirls project. As both an organisation and on a personal level, this project means so much to us. Every young person deserves the confidence, resilience and knowledge to navigate an ever-evolving digital world safely. With the right support and opportunities, we can help equip the next generation with the tools they need not just to cope, but to thrive. ”

On Monday, I shared the letter I wrote to the CEO of the Post Office about Burscough Bridge Post Office. Here's the response I have received from them. I will continue sharing any further updates as I get them.
