I don't get embarrassed very easily but it always feels a bit strange to submit to literary journals. It's like, "Hey I don't know you but here's all my baggage, I'm sending it to you directly, and also here's a poem about snails for some reason."

writer, thinker, coffee drinker. she/her. (if you know me from elsewhere, it might be as bravenewlady on the other site or from my Prairie Schooner days)
So many of my brainstorm/structure notes like “is this anything?” and “what do we have here? What was I thinking? You were showing off and lost the plot”
I doubt anyone following me on here needs to see this, but: if you use LLMs for brainstorming / ideation / rubberducking, may I introduce you to one of my honest-to-god most productive thinking / writing tools: talking to myself no, i mean, in text
Look, I like silence as much as the next writer, but I'm calling for a temporary moratorium on the words "quiet" and "quietly"
seriously, I like most of you and could use more friends

This is the book living rent-free in my head this summer that I keep recommending to people. If you haven't read it yet, get on it!

Wile E. Coyote, despaired, takes a bucket of paint and a brush and paints a beautiful two-bedroom house on a mountainside. He paints a beautiful coyote wife in the window, and two adorable coyote kids running around in the yard. He tries to enter this new coyote life, but it is inaccessible to him
Interestingly, the typeface used for the words "We Came In Peace For All Mankind," was Futura. It's an iconic geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Paul Renner in 1927. Honestly, a masterpiece typeface. Renner wanted to modernize typography by moving away from the heritage of calligraphy 1/2
On this day 57 years ago, sapient ape-descended life forms from this planet first set foot on the moon. It was one of the most significant events in the history of the species, and one that to this day, we think of when we look up in the sky with a sense of wonder.
Someone just sent me this photo from Chicago, unbelieveable
When I was in college, I sponge-painted a t-shirt with green and pink letters that read "never trust robots," and more and more each day I wish I still had it
I love this journal, and I love how Maureen's piece blends the sensory with the digital and finds the improbable thread between them. A brief, aching piece fully worth the read!

Just thinking this morning about how many women are forced to serve up the most intimate and horrible moments of their pasts because people blast through a veritable thicket of red flags in support of a political candidate, and in retaliation, they are smeared and harassed.
What’s the word you simply can’t learn to spell? all these years writing and editing and I’m still constitutionally incapable of typing the word “lavender” correctly on first try.
i wrote a whole 78000 words trying to exorcise jd vance and his narratives from the place i love. i am fully ready for a different muse.
One of my friends wrote a novel and sent me the manuscript to beta read, and it was so good, y'all!!! This is just the best feeling, celebrating friends who make things! If you're making things, I'm proud of you, too.
Sentences built like IKEA furniture. No craftsmanship. Pieces made of particleboard. Slot A with peg A, following instructions with the sense that there’s only ever one “right” way to do things. Cheap materials.
every time someone compliments my hair when I didn’t even wash it, an angel gets its wings
My nine year old asked for a Rosetta Stone cake for his birthday
Sorry, but yes, we did order a “Jalen Brunson MVP” pizza from our local spot. Does Brunson even like pepperoni, ricotta, vodka sauce, and hot honey? No way to know. I think I do now, though.
I’m thinking about getting really into lizards this summer—not for touching, just for thinking about

U.S. electricity generation from solar surpassed coal for the first time in May. But, for now, coal is still the dominant fuel for electricity in Kentucky. www.lpm.org/news/2026-06...
Solar generated more electricity than coal in May, amid Trump investment in coal plants
For now, coal is still the dominant fuel for electricity in Kentucky. Nationwide, though, natural gas overtook coal a decade ago. Renewables, including wind and solar, have surpassed coal in recent years.

It’s been so long since I saw a book with a missing signature that I genuinely was questioning myself and why I couldn’t follow the plot for a full few minutes before I thought to check the page numbers!
