It's data release day. Both Sloan DR20 and eRosita DR2 (the Black Hole Mapper part of SDSS follows up on some of the eRosita sources). In this eRosita data release we are now nearing 2 million point sources, an unprecedented number for X-ray surveys (most will be AGN). www.aip.de/en/news/eros...

A major take-home from #SPIEAstro is that the level of scientific ambition in the European ground-based astronomy community is sky-high following the successes of VLT/VLTI, ALMA and the progress on ELT. @eso.org is *the* global leader in this area. This event sounds fab.

1962 - Whatever happened to Baby Jane It is an American psychological horror thriller directed and produced by Robert Aldrich. It stars real-life rivals Bette Davis as "Baby" Jane Hudson and Joan Crawford as Blanche Hudson as rival aging sisters that were at one point famous in the entertainment scene. The movie is famous for its kicking off the "hagsploitation" or "hag horror" genre in the 60s and for supposed feuds on the set between the two leads, which they later denied.

1961 - The Children's Hour It's a psychological drama produced and directed by William Wyler (oh, hello again) with a screenplay by John Michael Hayes, based on the 1934 play of the same title by Lillian Hellman, which itself is inspired by a real case in 1810 that happened to two ladies running a school in Scotland. It stars Audrey Hepburn as Karen and Shirley MacLaine as Martha who run a girls school and find themselves in social and financial ruin after a student accuses them of engaging in a lesbian relationship.
