I'm in the cemetery running (don't get distracted that's not the point of this) a couple is walking a full grown goat to on a leash. it's so tall a man drove by, rolled down his window & yelled " I thought that was a deer!" and the guy holding a leash said "everybody says that" So Baltimore

I heard a story about a detained health researcher the other day and assumed this was it - but no, there‘s a second local scientist, from UMD, who is being held by ICE. On his way home from receiving a “teacher of the year” award. www.wbaltv.com/article/umb-...

Ameaka Fatima Nkempu, a Johns Hopkins University researcher in public health, was detained by ICE while boarding a domestic flight. She says she is Cameroonian in a Medium article that she authored. As of Thursday morning, the ICE Online Detainee Locator did not list where she was being held.

I love old astronomy books. Here they are in 1902 struggling with the identification of my favourite emission line, the 500.7nm emission from oxygen. It is a forbidden transition, so not seen in normal lab spectra; here it is speculated to be from an unknown element, “nebulum.” 🧪🔭

#JWST observations of LRDs in the news once again! Nice story on the Saguaro LRD (it has arms!), based on work led by our @stsci.edu postdoc Pierluigi Rinaldi. We'll be reobserving Saguaro with JWST in the coming year to learn more about it. science.nasa.gov/missions/web... 🔭

Much respect to any foreign researchers working in the US on visas - I don't know how you get ANY work done with the constant stream of ill-defined rule changes, forms to fill in, stamps to get, emails with HR and attorneys. Is anyone tallying the wasted productivity??

Earlier this year UKRI launched a funding call to invest £40M in ONE AI lab. www.ukri.org/opportunity/... For some unknown reason they decided to fund TWO AI labs at the cost of £60M. An extra £20M. Just found. That's the equivalent of 7 more years of Jodrell Bank. www.ukri.org/news/ukri-la...
