The Astrosky Ecosystem

We're building new social media tools for astronomers and astronomy enthusiasts online - from feeds to account hosting. Website: https://astrosky.eco | GitHub: https://github.com/the-astrosky-ecosystem Account managed by @emily.space

Social media is essential for outreach and communication. So why should a single bad actor be able to destroy it? 🔭☄️ We don't think that should be the case, and that's why we're building The Astrosky Ecosystem - starting with the Astronomy feeds. We now have a paper about our project! #astrocode

The Astrosky Ecosystem: An independent online platform for science communication and social networking

While almost everything that astronomers study occurs in the vacuum of space, astronomy itself does not `happen in a vacuum'. Interactions between scientists, as well as outreach to members of the pub...

We're rolling out some new bespoke branding designed by the wonderful Janine Jochum in Vienna - you'll see the logos on the feeds and on our accounts change over time! These logos were handmade for us 🎨, and they replace the emojis we used before as temporary stand-ins across the project!

Our new logo - a telescope in the center, and including text saying "The Astrosky Ecosystem" around the telescope.

Help us to build the Astronomy feeds and The Astrosky Ecosystem! 🔭 ☄️ #astrophotography We'd especially like to find >1 frontend dev to help work on replacing @bot.astronomy.blue with a simpler web interface, but we have some backend & devops needs to fill too. More details in the post below ⬇️

We're looking for new developers! - Blog - The Astrosky Ecosystem

We'd like to expand our team to include new devs. We'd especially love to hear from you if you're a frontend developer.

For the last two years, I've been paying for the Astronomy feeds hosting myself. It has been a privilege to grow our community here, but I also shouldn't keep doing it for free 😅 That's why I'm delighted to announce that we now have a donations page on Open Collective! 🔭☄️ #astrophotography

🎉 The Astronomy feeds have new pinned posts! 🔭☄️ • The new pinned posts are now per-feed, so each feed has its own info & identity • There are some lovely images in the link for each feed (including one from @ltno2.bsky.social) • They include a link to a bespoke FAQ page for each feed, like this:
