Trump doesn’t really care about issues or ideology. He only seeks to increase his power. Everything else is in service to that.

My mildly contrarian take: El-Sayed was simply a better candidate on the stump than Stevens. Did anyone hear them both speak/campaign? If Stevens was the progressive and El-Sayed was the moderate the race might have still turned out exactly the same way.

More often than many want to admit, the outcome of political races comes down to likeability of the candidate. Mandami is a great example. That guy just comes across as extremely likeable. Trump being an obvious exception to the rule.

The coalition of people who vote for Democrats is broader than some people realize. The core of the coalition is an amalgamation of white liberals and black and brown moderates. And, in the last few years, it’s expanded with the addition of a lot of white former Republican voters.
