Huge nerd. Sings and codes, not necessarily in that order. Not big on own pronouns, happy to respect yours. Leave my trans brothers and sisters alone.
"No, the squeak toy can't come on the walk." — things I say to the dogs
Please! The very first thing I want to know about any new social media (or app in general) feature is how to turn it off. If you want to show off the new thing you've done, great — but let me opt in to it instead of swearing in frustration while I try to find a way to opt out.
hey @joshuajfriedman.com if there's one thing I might beg you to communicate internally - the (a?) core of bluesky users want opt-in instead of opt-out, because we don't trust social media corporations to ever do good thngs. It's a learned distrust, and it might not be fair, but it's there.
If you have never wanted to set fire to a theatre are you even a theatre person
The problem with voice as an instrument is that it's far too personal. (The degree to which realizations about my vocal production dovetail with therapy questions is once again making me profoundly uncomfortable.)
Oh hey fellow makers, this is VERY cool looking. Don’t have to go down with the Etsy ship! fybe.art

One of the things I appreciate about this place is that there's generally an expert on whatever topic comes up ready to talk about it in detail. (TLDR as always — it's more complicated than that.)
this is not true. there was no conspiracy. it didn't matter whether the streetcars were publicly owned (seattle, detroit) or private (los angeles, atlanta). a thread (because i wrote a whole-ass book on this): 1/?
Just mad at everybody this morning and ready to bite approximately 10% of the current population of the planet
This is the only kind of datacenter I respect.
current feelings around AI: the CEOs shoveling slop into everything should be in jail but the guys spending upwards of $60,000 on elaborate, janky home rigs to run local models for no reason other than to see if it works are engaging in a long and semi-honorable tradition of computer toucher shit
the sun isn't even up yet, why am I sweating (and other August questions)
This will screw over most of the people I work with in the entertainment industry (much like his positions on AI screw over tech and education) so naturally he's for it. He's the worst governor we've had since Pete Wilson sold us out to Enron and the private prison lobby in the 90s.
This is an excellent book by one of my favorite authors.
INTO THE DROWNING DEEP by Mira Grant is only $2 in US eBook format today! That's less than half the cost of a cup of decent coffee for hours and hours of meticulous marine biology research leading you to the horrors of the deep!
Introverts be like: I’m trying to fix my sleep schedule, but the world is so quiet and peaceful from 12am to 5am
Things I say (first thing this morning, unfortunately) to the dogs: "well, at least you pooped on the tile instead of the wood floor. good for you, I guess"
I have soaked a ratty old t-shirt in water before putting it on, dunked my head in the sink, and am sitting under the kitchen fan eating ice cream. This body wasn't built for summer or climate change. (or much of anything else, tbh)
I don't need this kind existential blow to the head before coffee. (I've spent a lifetime trying to keep a rein on my natural cynicism. This has become more difficult at an exponentially increasing rate in the last ten years.)
looking at the headlines and reflecting once again on how all the smart, hard-working, honest people I know feel like they’re going at least a little insane in our era of total Stupid Immoral Asshole ascendancy

Please stop trying to gamify reading to sell me more books. You couldn't get me to stop reading with a brick, and I already spend too much on books.
A thread on special editions, luxury books, and publishing history: In 1903, J. M. Dent created Everyman’s Library, intended as a cheap line of hardbacks to make a classical education accessible as mass literacy rates were on the rise.
THYS SUMMER TWO ROADES WHICH ONE DO YOU CHOOSE?
Studio execs are going to want to adapt more poems for the big screen now
