PITCH

Desiree Palmer is a union representative juggling four districts and a two-hour commute she fuels with stale fries (crinkle-cut) and prebiotic soda.

Over a school year of budgets, grievances, and board meetings, contract negotiations build to a strike. She rallies the classified workers-the people who get paid the least to do work that matters most: Keep schools open.

Only there is a distraction. At a routine disciplinary meeting, she meets Santiago Vega. District's suit. He's worse than a rival, he's an idealist arguing from the other side of the table.

When Ricky Davis is awoken by texts asking “Is this you?” about a photo of his best friend and Kingsden Football Club teammate Zhan Zao getting intimate with a man that looks a lot like Ricky, he’s thrown into an impossible situation.

Ricky is straight—and after years of scandals, quite publicly so—but when Ricky overhears that the owners of the club plan to trade Zhan for being gay, he knows what he has to do: lie that he’s the other man in the photo.

Zhan is the best striker on the team and Kingsden needs him to secure the trophy that Ricky’s been chasing his entire career. Surely the club can’t trade two openly queer players?

“Ours won’t.” Ricky is sure of it.

So when his former best friend—and first love—Matt Beckett comes back to town after a career-ending baseball injury, Owen has no interest in reopening old wounds.

Matt was the golden boy with MLB dreams. Now he’s back home, stepping into the role as the varsity baseball coach and long term substitute teacher. When the principal assigns Owen as his instructional mentor, Matt has no choice but to accept help from the one person he never truly got over.

What starts as classroom support quickly spills onto the field. Owen starts helping with the team, until their lives are tangled together from first period to the final inning. And being around each other again makes one thing impossible to ignore: whatever they had ten years ago never faded. A rushed and heady locker room hook up turns into an off campus high heat situationship they aren’t ready to label.

But Owen can’t risk loving someone who might leave again, and Matt doesn’t think he deserves a second chance. Still, no matter how hard they try to keep their distance, they keep getting pulled back in—on the field, in the classroom, and everywhere in between.

To have a future, Owen must confront his fear of abandonment, while Matt has to decide if coming home is just a detour—or the place he’s finally ready to stay.
