These are what I have to show for my first semester! I was kinda iffy on posting them because they’re experimental and I’ve already moved on - taking the concepts I started here much further. The raptor cave painting/imprint in particular thrives in my studio posing with all of the debris.

A dimly lit, small, cluttered artist studio with a painting on the wall. It’s fragmented into four panels from a cardboard box, depicting a reddish brown outline of a microraptor on a bright yellow-cream background. The cardboard has been slashed and dug into revealing the inner texture in multiple areas. The pose is agonized and warped, filling a role between cave painting and imprint. Two paintings hanging on a wall one on top of the other with a 2 inch gap between them. They’re both oil paint over top cardboard. The top painting is referencing prehistoric plants and the bottom one, prehistoric shelled animals such as ammonites. They read as very abstract. The top one is brown and orange with bits of scale texture and blue. The bottom is rainbow at times with multiple swirls and complicated clusters of form. Both have been cut into, revealing the textured cardboard underneath. In some of these instances, aluminum wire is decoratively woven throughout.

BFA Thesis or “Viscarity.” Obligatory “most things I make aren’t ten feet tall,” but it was worth it! Never underestimate the value of good mentors who push you put of your comfort zone. The attached text is my general artist statement along with an extra paragraph at the end about the piece. ❤️

Subsequently, I consider art my first language. I have always relied on it to process my thoughts and emotions, and this has remained an essential constant in my life as words continue to fail me. My soup-brain has many quirks, conflating the world around me in bizarre ways. The flow of time tends to escape me. The study of prehistory is often presented as immutable. Functionally though, much of it is predicated on educated assumptions. We clarify and recontextualize through emerging perspectives and discoveries - never sure of how close we are to an absolute truth. My work addresses the nebulous condition of the past through distorted and overlapping forms to make sense of an incomplete reality. Nothing is more compelling to me than the raw veracity of a fossil

Trying to figure out how to make some custom categories for my profile. Would be nice to split the art between personal and fandom so that people don’t have to see as much of one or the other if they don’t care to. Also having a little art folder is always good I guess.

This is the last oil painting from the set posted last week! I need to varnish the painting and redo the photo since this one isn’t taken well. Set up a still-life with some friends of objects that are important to us. For me that’s the necklace, kalimba, mandolin, and cat plushie. #art #painting

A still-life oil painting I helped to arrange. Lots of glare on the left and right. Front and center is an orange kalimba. In front of it are scissors, some dried roses, a tiny cork vase with a dried rose in it, and some dried leaves. A brown plush cat is tucked away behind it and a large rusty colored mandolin is strewn across everything in the back. Also features are a boot, a large box with a necklace on it, a violin, and a coyote skull. Everything is arranged on black velvet with pearls scattered about.

Slowly uploading my old stuff in the meantime while I work on the new! These were from the first painting class I took in college - about 3 years ago. I went from having no idea what I was doing to confidently having no idea what I’m doing. There’s another one but it’s distinct from these. #art

Fair warning to anyone who decides to follow me for dinosaurs. I also am going to be posting art for Wings of Fire, Warriors, and My Little Pony. It’s coded into my DNA I fear. That being said the fossil work is where my actual career is headed, haha.

Also ended up making a book as a requirement for graduating with honors. It’s essentially a school portfolio! Went with the option to do it from scratch instead of ordering it in because I wanted to do some goofy customization. Would have been way more difficult without the book binder though.
