I'm in my early 40s and I definitely remember Wikipedia being treated *as the equivalent* of slop (i.e., untrustworthy) in my final high school/early college years. It took a couple of years to go from "don't use Wikipedia anyone can put anything there" to "use Wikipedia as a first step."

It's sad when something bad happens to you. It's you that has to pay with your mental health, negative impact to your research, due diligence in reporting, and potentially, resigning out of fear of retaliation. Workplace misconduct ruins careers and lives, especially for young women.
Remember that this behaviour is not isolated to the field; rather, abusers who abuse at home become particularly empowered during field work. We must make field work safer, and remove abusers from the entire sector. phys.org/news/2026-09...
I've always wondered about this photo of Hadrosaurus in Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins' studio. Its pose is slightly different from the one photographed on display at the Academy of Natural Sciences. So is it the same mount in-progress, or a completely different one?
I feel so confident saying the native intelligence of this generation is not the problem. The looting & wholesale sabotage of their educational infrastructure is.

My impression is this is pretty typical, and its another thing that persuades me that... to be honest... The Cosmopolitan Way Of Life is simply superior. The people throwing the authoritarian temper tantrum are simply those ignorant of its benefits.

here is my little hack that helps sometimes
Artists, QRP with a practical art "hack" you use. Let's share some wit & knowhow.
The oldest natural history museum in the nation, the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, will cease to exist by the end of the month. The museum’s operating costs are half of 1% of Drexel’s budget. Drexel’s president pockets 2.8 million annually. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/01/u...
A Nearly 200-Year-Old Museum Known for Its T. Rex Faces Extinction
The Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, which is affiliated with Drexel University, cited attendance struggles and higher costs in its decision to close.

I’m not the first person to make this observation but the prevalence of nauseating ai-generated business logos means stuff like this hits CRAZY for me now

Using Twitter chronically makes you swallow up pro-Kremlin attitudes towards the war in Ukraine. You can tell someone's chronically online if they share same, narrow opinion on this war.
Have seen this Nature piece about the effects of X's algorithm mentioned again and it bears repeating; exposure to a right wing algorithm makes you - measurably and predictably - more right wing, even after you stop using it. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
For a certain kind of white man, there is no fear more primal than the fear that the people they have abused will gain power and treat them the same way.

Truly wild to have lived through moral panics about teenagers wearing hoodies and Muslim women wearing the head dress to now experience 'but is a large group of organised far right activists in balaclavas really that scary'
What a ridiculous question. Once again the BBC drives a nail into it's own coffin.
