Derek Chauvin was a field training officer for Minneapolis PD. More training won't help unaccountable right-wing thugs be decent. If you want a phenomenal dive into a microcosm of this problem, you would do well to read @awinston.bsky.social's book "The Riders Come Out At Night", about Oakland PD.

I keep hearing about how the poor training of ICE agents led to the recent killings. But as I argued for @ms.now after the Renee Good murder, it isn’t really about training. It’s about what DHS is designed to do now. www.ms.now/opinion/ice-...

Footage shot from aboard a ship owned by the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater environmental organization showed the U.S. Coast Guard and New York Police Department vessels directing the tall ship away from New York Harbor's Sail4th 250 parade on July 4. reut.rs/4gX4oxR

The president of the Phoenix Police Sergeants and Lieutenants Association is defending the plainclothes cop who showed up to a high school anti-ICE walkout while armed and tried to bait students into assaulting him so he could arrest them. Wild choice for an op-ed in the Republic here.

Opinion: Before we rush to judgement on the Phoenix police officer fired for harassing protesting teens, he does have First Amendment rights too.

New: it appears ICE is buying immigrants' tax identifiers through a data broker. ICE has repeatedly tried to get this sort of data from the IRS. Judges have repeatedly blocked that move, calling it illegal. Now it looks like ICE is just buying related data instead www.404media.co/ice-appears-...

DOJ Lawyers Argue xAI Is ‘Vital’ for National Security in NAACP Lawsuit

In a bid to dismiss a lawsuit over xAI's polluting gas turbines, the Justice Department claimed the company is integral to military operations—including the Iran War.

A couple of courthouse clerks in Utah are accused of helping immigrants evade ICE officers. After allegedly doing this, they "were spotted on a surveillance camera waving and smiling at it," with one using "her middle finger in an obscene gesture at the camera.” www.sltrib.com/news/2026/06...

2 former city employees in Utah face federal charges for allegedly helping someone evade ICE

The sad part of this World Cup is how not just Trump has poisoned the USMNT’s presence - but also Pulisic’s MAGAtry & the conspicuously Christian displays by so many of the current squad.

NEW: Run, don't walk, to @us.theguardian.com's ranking of the USMNT's goals from 1990 onwards. There were some simply sensational strikes. @anabnos.com, @mlsist.bsky.social, and I rated the importance, quality, and ✨vibes✨ of each. That's why we're here. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Just like gang laws and surveillance practices, the media also revels in targeting “marginal” populations with new phrasing, framing and delineations of “correct” society and behavior. The Platner saga is going to be taught for years in journalism schools and sociology courses

About how this relates to NYT specifically: The Times systematically ran its reputation for fair, honest journalism into the ground with the trans community and others. It's coming back to bite them with folks not trusting their big investigated features, which is their own fault entirely.
