You qualify bad because you can't get a good finishing position so the metric says tough shit. You can't get a good finishing position because qualifying results determine both track position and pit stall selection, and car can't pass because everybody has reached about the limit of development.

I thought they were going to stand behind their pit crews?

If NASCAR is going to keep doing annual For The Troops™️ base races I think they should do it at JBLM, partially for genuine market outreach reasons, and mostly so that I can have one (1) race that I don’t have to go through an airport out to cover
