I’ve seen a lot of health care workers rightfully sharing their memories from 2020, and their anger at how their struggle is minimized. I hope that they understand this feeling of being forgotten is akin to how many high risk patients feel today, when they have to beg health care workers to mask.

I just saw an infectious disease doctor liken wearing a mask in 2026 to “wearing two condoms to prevent HIV” which has got to be one of the wildest, most irresponsible takes I’ve ever heard. First of all - Wearing one condom does protect you from HIV, as a well-fit respirator does from COVID!
Yeah I gained 20 lbs/stopped all my active hobbies/didn’t pursue directing after making a feature/stopped eating all but 5 foods for attention, you know.
Prof Nisreen Alwan@nisreenalwan.bsky.social · 2d agoI’m intrigued by the recent resurgence of the ‘Long Covid is not real’ nonsense we saw back in 20/21. The refusal to learn is one thing, but the dismissal of reality is another. Long Covid is too painful, too common & too present in many people’s lives to be denied. The story is hard to rewrite.
If you ever get to the point where you’re insinuating that you’re such a good ally you never need to apologize for a mistake, you may be irretrievable.

The rage people come at vegans/vegetarians with always completely baffled me (vegetarian since age 10) until I saw it enacted with people yelling at maskers, too. If you know your choice is ethically off, or you have a rigid idea of acceptability , anyone choosing differently seems like a threat.
Sara Century@saracentury.bsky.social · 2d agoI went vegetarian at 14 and had people trying to sneak meat into my food, calling me slurs, waving pieces of ham in my face, telling me I was going to die from poor health, refusing to provide options at meals, etc, but to this day I say I'm vegan and people are like "omg, so you're JUDGY."
We have also been rather consistent in saying you cannot contain eugenics to one issue. It is too convenient to capital to blame sickness on sick people. And it’s why it needs to be resisted openly, fiercely, bravely, and even when you want brunch.
Aparna Nair@disabilitystor1.bsky.social · 2d agoWhen disabled people/many people who work on disability/health pointed to the dangers of this kind of framing since COVID, they were usually mocked ("oh you think everything is eugenics") or ignored. But normalising the idea that the deaths of disabled people are desirable/reassuring is dangerous.

People are complaining that for two hours in the early morning on one single day, the Exploratorium in San Francisco will require respirator masks. Never mind that this allows disabled and immune compromised kids to safely share in something they’re otherwise excluded from. Fuck them kids.

The best thing about a childfree existence is I can sing a loud version of the rap from Ghostbusters about oatmeal and no child judges me, no tween informs me this is cringe, there is only my husband, only him laughing and the unchecked delusion that we are still cool.
never thought short form video would be able to capture a type of humor i can only describe as “the far side-esque” but this comes close.
If you believe this, and I hope you do, there is nothing stopping you from continuing to protect your vulnerable neighbors by wearing masks in crowded and indoor spaces, especially necessary spaces like healthcare facilities, grocery stores, and public transportation. Absolutely nothing.

That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
Honestly, regardless of what he did to his wife, this clueless video shows he absolutely no idea what spousal abuse is or looks like, which should be disqualifying entirely on its own, or he’s used to covering his tracks and victim blaming.

Bill Maher just went after maskers *again*, and you really have to ask, why does this victory taste so bitter in their mouths that they need to harass disabled people about it every few months? Doesn’t seem like gloating. Seems like barely contained rage painted as thin as gold leaf over fear.

In my opinion, they are looking for a reason to find it acceptable that isn’t “because Covid still exists and I don’t want it.” They’re trying to fit you into their narrative, because you are unpleasantly jarring to them.
Dr. Lucky Tran@luckytran.com · 4d agoIt’s always odd to me when I get asked if I am wearing a mask because I am sick. In my experience, these days most people wearing a mask are doing so to prevent themselves getting sick, and most people who are sick don’t wear a mask at all.
