Longer Worlds slush update: I'm currently reading submissions sent to me on May 10. If you sent something on or before May 9 and did not get a response (acceptance, hold, rejection), please query. I'm down to 54 open submissions, and am still reading almost every day.

Reminding my American friends to check to make sure they're registered to vote way before November. Even if you think you are - doublecheck just to make sure you don't fall pray to shennanigans.
Don’t forget to cast your vote for the 2026 Hugo Awards! Did you know that voting on the entire Hugo Awards ballot is NOT required? Do you know films and video games, but not novels? Do you love art and graphic stories, but haven't read the novellas?

I know this would be closing the barn door after he horse has been reelected president, but if Democrats win both chambers I'd really like to see a concurrent resolution deeming January 6 an insurrection under 14(3). 1/
Dear fucking God, Apple, I have been deleting this U2 album with the creepy ass cover once a week since 2003. What do I need to do to make it GONE?
Great list, and also Radon Journal (www.radonjournal.com/issues) is a poetry-first semi-pro journal. All the sci-fi poems are all eligible for the Hugo Award

For the record, I have never been contacted by anyone seeking permission to reprint (online or in print) my short story "Things I Learned Today" and the original publisher (Daily Science Fiction) is no more. If you see it online anywhere other than the Wayback Machine, please alert me.
There is just one thing the astronaut has to remember in Jacob Bergstresser’s “The Astronaut’s Mantra” (Sci-Fi). Is the mantra going to work? “Don't crash into the sun. Don't crash into the sun. ... ” Continue reading at crypticfrogpublishing.wordpress.com/2026/07/24/i...
I am so glad this is finally coming to light. There have been rumors about this for several months now, but everyone who could have gone on record had airtight NDAs. This is not the only thing that these companies are rumored to be doing that no one in the know can talk about.
No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.

Ever wonder what writers do with the money they get from selling a story? Well, my @crepuscularmag.bsky.social story, "Four Reasons Not to Let the Local Zoo's Caracal Negotiate the Interplanetary Trade Agreement" was, obviously about a caracal.

Longer Worlds slush update: I'm currently reading stories submitted May 6. If you submitted before then, you should have received an acceptance, hold notice, or rejection already. If not, please query. The quality of submissions is very high, so slushing is taking longer than planned. My apologies
Our editor's statement on the current AI bouhaha. 🧵
In light of all that's going on, I feel like I need to make a statement. Short version: 1) I don't accept stories written by or with LLM tools 2) I don't use AI detectors 3) It's possible I could be fooled by AI. All that proves is that the author committed fraud by misrepresenting their product.
Lack of attention to detail is one of the reasons humans shouldn’t do their own security.

Since I've gotten two queries in the last three days, it's time for a public post: Yes, Longer Worlds is still happening. The delay is that I got a lot more submissions than expected. Since they're all, well, longer and most of them are very good, reading the slush is slow going.

The part of the story I'm dying to hear is how people who were at home in Ohio and California to be arrested on Saturday were going to be in D.C. with all their armaments on Sunday to attack the White House, because that's some impressive logistics there.
Because I just had a query and y'all deserve a status update: I'm still working my way through the slush. If there is a no-simsub market opening tomorrow and you still haven't heard from me, feel free to send me a note that you'd like me to pause consideration.

I've recently started lurking in an online space that has a lot of aspiring writers in it. More and more of them are reporting being hit up online by people trying to convince them to purchase editing services for their stories pre-submission. Please don't. 🧵
Question for everyone with sewing tables out there: How many do you own? Because Wayfair clearly believes that since I bought one, I need several more.
