First sunflower of the summer. Already, the goldfinches have been checking them out. The squirrels will come later. I’m waiting to see a Black Swallowtail butterfly or two arrive now.

Globe Candytuft, a cascading plant, is now blooming with white, pink and purple flowers, welcoming bees and butterflies. It’s neat to see how they begin, with many tiny buds opening fully into many mini flowers, forming a cluster. #FridayFlowers
So unfortunate, here we go again. Many years ago, Harris tried to use this tactic and failed. Very damaging to public education and respect for teachers. Sure hope teachers’ unions get lots of press coverage and they stay in the news, informing parents of school children and others of the dangers.
“Facts matter,” she posted. “We asked to continue negotiating the central issues already agreed to be within central scope while the OLRB determines the remaining disputed items. The government refused and is insisting that central bargaining wait. We remain ready to bargain.” #Ontario
For those even remotely considering voting for Chris Alexander as Mayor of Toronto, consider this 2015 “snitch line” of his and Harper’s. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

CBC News has learned the RCMP had no idea a Conservative government would have tasked it with establishing a controversial "barbaric cultural practices" tip line.

Definitive statement by Federal government, “will not infringe on treasured public spaces”. Now the Provincial government needs to return the public spaces they stole for commercial development, not community use.
Update: just called Ford's public fdback line & was on HOLD FOR 10 MIN. ☎️ 416-325-1941 Apparently, the line is fully staffed but it has been BUSY!! Repeated that I was appalled by ad hominem attacks & they should give back the land since Fed Min said they wouldn't incur on Little Norway Park.
So, I guess that Pearl Crescent butterflies like to be colour camouflaged with a weathered deck and colour coordinated with our butterfly flowers, Coreopsis!
Ontario, it’s time again to sign, phone, write and/or protest against this aggressive takeover of city land by the current provincial government. Restore the Tripartite Agreement! (And keep in mind the government’s lack of good management of all the many forest fires burning in ON.)
The airport expansion is over. There's no reason for the Province to keep Toronto's waterfront. Olivia Chow has tabled a motion to bring it back. 🚨 Sign the petition before City Hall votes. #TOpoli #NoJetsTO share.oliviachow.ca/s/Fp6IDgFj
More than a murder of crows, about two dozen crows are enjoying their day, soaring placidly on the wind currents.
Hardy Finlanders care for the environment and people!
Pornainen, Finland (pop 5,000) is now heated by a silo of crushed soapstone. I spoke to CNBC about it. 100 MWh, charged when power is cheap, emissions down ~70%. Days to weeks of storage, no critical minerals. www.cnbc.com/2026/07/25/f...
First Morning Glory bloom! These plants seeded themselves in a small planter. I added a tomato cage wrapped with netting, and as they continued to climb, I added three 6’ poles to support the vines. They are still climbing ;) #FridayFlowers
So, we took a nostalgic trip to The McMichael Canadian Art Gallery before it closes. Added to the collection of paintings by the Group of Seven, is more Indigenous and Inuit art! I have mixed feelings about its closing and what may become of the history of the gallery. www.cbc.ca/news/enterta...

Distractions, distractions! So many irons in the fire, some literally in the ring of fire. Grabbing our money while destroying our prosperity and now, cultural pursuits. No more Planetarium, OSC, Ontario Place, and perhaps next to burn are the ROM, AGO, and McMichael Gallery.
Local man says he was so busy trying to buy a $29M private jet without taxpayers finding out that he didn't notice his team bending the rules on hospitality expenses.
This morning, I newly discovered that the two caterpillars on the dill and parsley are not the same!
One lone Black Swallowtail caterpillar has shown up, and decided to move from a single stalk of dill to the parsley. 🌿 There is lots there to eat and much more shelter.

Canada's Boreal Forest isn't a neighborhood park—it’s one of the largest intact ecosystems on Earth. 🌲 It covers roughly 1.3 billion acres (526 million hectares). That is an area comparable to the entire United States.
This is a story is the real story. Well worth the read and should be shared by the media. I’m familiar with the Thunder Bay area, and am dismayed at the Premier’s disregard of people and forests.

Cho is the chosen scapegoat for Ford and his errant MPP’s. The Premier is complicit and he should own up to it himself. Just another press op to whitewash the Premier. I wonder how much bonus Cho will get?!!
Stan Cho resigns his cabinet post because he expensed too many hotel stays but the two MPPs who suggested 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 the allowance - Education Minister Paul Calandra and Government House Leader Steve Clark - get to keep their gigs?
Northern Ontario is burning. Today, I’m calling for immediate action: ✅ Declare a provincial state of emergency ✅ Remove barriers between jurisdictions so emergency assistance can be provided quickly ✅ Show up: house every evacuee, resource every fire crew, and rebuild every affected community
Glad Marit is stepping up to the plate, and not just talking about affordability now. Good time to deal with many other burning issues (forgive the term) affecting the electorate in Ontario, and what they would do about them.
If you stepped outside today, that haze you're breathing is wildfire smoke. But the real story is up north, where it's coming from. Whole communities evacuated. Families fleeing by boat. Collins First Nation burned to the ground.
A group of TO civil society leaders (in a sea of people who aren't saying a peep) have created TO Reality Check to oppose the Island Airport expansion. Give them some time + share where you can. They've made it easy to send a letter to Liberal MPs who could stop all this today. torealitycheck.ca

Mystery solved, large fluffs floating in the air are not huge dandelion fluffs, but Goatsbeard. This one is growing in a plot of Trefoil blossoms by the street's edge! After seeing many areas of yellow dandelions in the spring, we now enjoy yellow trefoil across the city all summer. Bees do too.
