Climate and environmental justice. Anticolonial, anti-capitalist, antifascist. Opinions my own.

“Chevron just announced its highest quarterly earnings ever. Shell clocked its second-highest quarterly profits. And while ExxonMobil's profits came in beneath what Wall Street analysts had expected, it still managed to double its earnings compared with this time last year.“ Tax them into oblivion.🤬

Oil companies report sky-high profits thanks to wartime crude prices

Chevron reported its highest quarterly earnings ever. Shell had its second-biggest quarter, and ExxonMobil doubled its earnings compared with the same time last year.

Tech oligarchs have bought the top leadership of both major US political parties. Meanwhile, public opinion is solidly against the push for AI. This is still more evidence of how the US has the outward forms, but not the substance, of democracy. readsludge.com/2026/07/29/d...

Democrats' Fundraisers Are Also Running AI's Congressional Access Operation

Consultants paid by Rep. Haley Stevens and other Democratic Senate campaigns are also managing a nonprofit that gives Google, Meta, Palantir, and other AI companies direct access to the congressional ...

We're in the era of incompetence & cybercrimes headlined as "unprecedented model capabilities gone rogue." So OpenAI & Anthropic are trying to one up each other with such incompetence because the "press release as a service" performing media & clueless politicians parrot pre IPO CEO talking points.

Exactly. Plus, there are material, ecological, economic, political, and just plain space constraints on how much renewable energy + storage we can build. Now factor in electricity demand growth from electrifying transportation, home heating etc.

The major problem with this breezily depoliticised headspace is that it is specifically the speed, scale and geographic concentration of data centre demand growth that tends to make it specifically consume fossil fuels over renewable energy

For those worried about the climate impacts
of data centers and Al. how that electricity is
generated arguably matters more than how
much it uses.
A query sewed by a data center on a coal-
dominated grid will have a much larger impact
than one running on a renewables- or nuclear-
heavy one.
How the growth of Al affects emissions
depends not just on its energy efficiency and
demand. but also on how clean the grids are
that supply it

A favored industry (fossil power generation) supplying another favored industry (AI data centers) is being exempted from regulations that keep it from poisoning people. This is crony capitalist corruption in action. www.reuters.com/legal/litiga...

EPA says power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws

Power sources providing electricity only to data centers and not the public grid may not be subject to federal pollution laws, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said on ‌Monday.

This is foolish: People don't need natural gas. We need warm housing, hot water, and cooked food, all of which can be done better with electricity. Saying utilities have a constitutional right to sell natural gas is like saying Sherwin-Williams has a constitutional right to sell lead paint.

With the U.S. suffering more than $200 billion in climate damages annually since 2016, some states are holding fossil fuel companies accountable for their role in these disasters. It’s time we demand lawmakers in Washington do the same. @basavsen.bsky.social

Naked Fossil Fuel Corruption - OtherWords

While states are trying to hold Big Oil accountable for climate disasters, some fossil fuel-funded lawmakers in Congress are trying to shield them.
