With the new Politico story, some folks are gonna have strong reactions to it, but my personal take is: a) it’s not like it’s her main outreach effort and b) the strategy of fight the right everywhere, turn influencers against their coalition to sow chaos in their ranks…. not the worst idea

I'm sorry, love you Ben + many of the commenters, but I am afraid you have simply become addicted to losing and cannot imagine living any other way
WOOF no thank you
This new Open Mike Eagle album feels like a turning point for hip hop culturally. Also, WHY IS THE MUSIC VIDEO SO GOOD? Seriously, someone explain it to me youtu.be/Mkz3oQvJyIg?...

Tech execs do not have, like, a theory of mind for people who aren’t tech execs. If they did, they wouldn’t be so frequently baffled by how repulsive normal people think their whole deal is right now
I grew up in the same neighborhood as David Crowley. We were the poor Black kids they liked to call animals. He's a great dude, the most progressive Milwaukee county exec. in a long, long time. Franchesca Hong is awesome too, though, so I'm mostly rooting for everyone to have fun tonight

I love you all but you are incredibly (understandably) reactive. It’s making you SO easily manipulated by rage baiters. When you see something without context, a headline or a snippet of a quote, take a deep breath and look into it to see if you really should be upset. Please protect your hearts.
Yes... a New Age. Too bad you will not be alive to see it.
This is a gift link... man, this article is really, truly great. Mostly because it doesn't try at all to twist itself into a clean or satisfying narrative, so every word feels alive with reality www.nytimes.com/2026/07/23/w...

First as a Marine and then as a journalist, I spent years tied to Afghanistan. I returned one last time to speak to a former enemy in search of answers, and perhaps closure.

This is a basic thing that nearly all humans do subconsciously -- mimic the people that surround them! news.cornell.edu/stories/2024...

Mimicry appears to be a fundamental behavior that helps people understand each other, not just when they get along, new Cornell psychology research finds.

People are making fun of AOC for having a slight southern accent while speaking in Memphis but they clearly don’t know the pain of habitually and unconsciously imitating the speaking style of the people around you
Any field where there are a disproportionate number of Black people attracts fanatics who will stop at nothing to destroy or devalue it
Great win for Mamdani and DSA last night, especially in my district -- my only note is that with a bit more candidate vetting, the closest race would not have been so risky. I always worry abt internet bully types interacting with power, but I also know ppls brains can temporarily break online
Yeah, this is super disgusting -- there is no greater footsoldier for elite capture of society than the "unpaid internship"
This should be deeply embarrassing for the NYC City council. Paying interns would be one of the easiest and cheapest "lead by example" things that Council could do on equal access and living wages. Who can afford to do an unpaid internship for the summer? (not poor folk!)

I try to remember that this world has ghosts inside it. Hidden, they will turn.
People forget this but they think this stuff is going to work. They really honestly do. They think the problem with everything is wokeness and if you eliminate that, things will suddenly be awesome. I know it looks like deliberate destruction but I think they're genuinely surprised this doesn't work
IMHO Magdalene Taylor has always been a great culture writer, and this is a good column if you aren't looking for ways to hate it based on the headline! (By withholding this unpopular opinion yday, I contributed to a monoculture and I regret that😅) www.nytimes.com/2026/05/31/o...

Sources tell me that Scott Pelley got into a heated back-and-forth with new '60 Minutes' executive producer Nick Bilton and managing editor Charles Forelle in today's meeting. He demanded to know why his colleagues were fired, prompting Bilton to say he wouldn't be intimidated and quickly leave.
They should do that Jubilee show with the Pope. Like "1 Pope vs 20 Conservatives Catholics Who Just Converted."
There we have it - you have to exclude trans people from single-sex spaces (so maybe avoid having them if you can). A bathroom ban from people who recognise that they’re doing a bathroom ban, and feel guilty about it. Shameful. www.gov.uk/government/p...
Did the DNC actually pay someone to write a major report that would have gotten a C- in an undergrad class? Their incomptence goes beyond what I imagined...
I don’t think Americans with hypertension and various other treatable conditions deserve to die. Sorry to get so partisan, but that’s how I feel.
RFK Jr. showing his eugenicist beliefs. Here he is today at The City Club in Cleveland: "The average American who died from COVID had 3.8 chronic diseases. So what was really killing them? It was almost impossible for COVID to kill a healthy person. It was killing people who were already sick."
My only question is: How could you say something so brave, and yet so true?
One of my scorchingly hot takes is that the best way to display a widescreen movie on a standard def CRT TV is to *stretch* the original aspect ratio to full screen (as opposed to letterboxing or cropping). Looks weird for a couple minutes but you quickly get used to it
