My oldest is a going into his sophomore year of college, and asked me if I knew what a “blue book” was. (“Yes, child. I was there..etc.”) Apparently more of his professors are going old school for exams. I say GOOD. 😤

Imagine arguing "I'm stupid and lazy, but I want to make the same sort of living smart and motivated people do, so asking me to NOT be stupid and lazy is unfair" and thinking you rocked it.
Competency matters. Accountability isn't optional. Choosing ignorance isn't cute and outsourcing your brain isn't the move. If that's you? I don't want you working for me, with me, or on me.
And Two: Walk in on your surgeon asking ChatPT what to do about YOUR case, then telling you to get on the table. Or your lawyer shrugging and copy-pasting the results into YOUR filing. Or your accountant saying "ChatGPT said it was fine!" when the audit comes through.
I've literally seen people argue using (wrong, untrustworthy) genAI in college should be OK, because "People are basically expected to go to college if they don't want to live in poverty." One: in no way does a college degree means you'll live well. Not now. It's not 1963.
And if you think that's harsh? D'you want a surgeon or accountant or engineer on your team or in your company that gets 100% on the take-home, but a flat zero on the in-person final, when they have to write and speak for themselves? Probably not.
lol devastating. This is exactly how all profs should move here on out, in-person finals with paper and pen. ChatGPT your way outta THAT one.
