Is your lane housing? Health care? Child care? Libraries? parks? Climate? Labor? Decrim? Disability? Trans lib? Whatever your lane, public budgets are key factors of the conditions under which we fight. Currently, budget politics are zero-sum games. How can we change them into win-win processes? 🧵

@childcareforallmn.bsky.social estimates that instituting universal child care in MN would cost $2-4B per year, which would be 5-10% of the state budget. Considering that Minnesotans currently spend 🚨20%🚨 of household income on child care, moving to universalize child care is a simple calculation.

We are SO excited that everyone, no matter their political affiliation, is talking about universal childcare! https://www.bemidjipioneer.com/news/bemidji-area-republican-reps-share-thoughts-on-childcare-for-all-upcoming-legislative-session

Activating the midterm vote started locally for us with big Election Protection launches and toolkits. We got the message and rolled out some tabling at the post office with zines, music, and spreading the word. Check out sources to help you get started wherever you are...

ICE increased its presence in Inwood this week and even attacked a bystander with pepper spray. The uptown NYC community turned out for a rally this morning to share resources and emphasize that we won't tolerate ICE thugs.

Brilliant! Simply brilliant. Even at its best, budget politics currently amounts to mere ranking: we decide which needs to prioritize now—and which to exclude or defer for yet another year. But the Loop enables us to add fiscal capacity OVER TIME—and make coalitions bodies of EXTENDED COORDINATION.

I can say with respect to the Seattle Loop that I really think it’s going to go somewhere in Seattle. But no matter what, I think it’s important to dream in detail and sketch blueprints before a path exists. On the left sometimes we’re most afraid of naive idealism without power to back it up…

“This structure shapes how people understand one another. A new public commitment comes to appear as a cost imposed on everyone whose own needs remain unmet.” Incredible work from @greenbackbetter.bsky.social .

In the old days, in order to have light at night, one needed wax or fat to light a candle; later, it became oil or gas to turn the turbines generating electricity to power one's light bulb. Today, we fight for renewables; but there is a similar fight for public power to be waged in finance.

"I write to urge you to impose a AI-moratorium in NYC's schools. At stake are not only the cognitive + emotional health of NYC's children but also— • Labor + economic conditions for educators • Climate + struggles for energy justice • Widening of the political + economic power-gap b/t rich + poor."

Hey, friends! I put my big face in a video like the kids do! Time to join the @aimoratoriumnyc.bsky.social and tell @mayor.nyc.gov to enact a moratorium on "A.i." in the schools! Please share - and please tell the mayor you want a moratorium! www.nyc.gov/mayors-offic...

I wrote about the political implications of detaching public financing from zero sum taxpayer mechanisms. In the context of the Seattle Loop here, but that is the bigger picture. Hope you share and enjoy!! 💥💸
