i think you’ll probably see a defection of about 10% of jews so it winds up ~60/35 instead of the usual ~70/25, and those will be people amped up on a collective hallucination that democrats have abandoned jews by abandoning support for the current, plainly loathsome israeli government.

yazikus@yazikus.bsky.social · 3d agoMan, I feel this. The kid asked me the other day "why aren't you guys doing something? I keep watching the adults say they are doing something but they aren't" (this was a global 'you guys' in response to current events invading the kid's news feed)
we found ourselves launched into this tormented sea, where guilty beings transformed into those fowls and these fish, seemed condemned to swim on everlastingly without any haven in store, or beat that black air without any horizon
If I told all my overseas friends that had actual lockdowns that we had the same, they'd rightfully slap me in the face.
I cannot imagine how hard it is so be a young person right now, how terrifying and helpless. They deserve a better inheritance than the incalculable sorrow we’re leaving them with.

Americans talk about “lockdowns” as though we experienced a uniform national policy. We didn’t! We had a patchwork of state and local responses. Treating “lockdown” as the single explanation for everything that followed erases that complexity AND the deeper problems that long predated COVID.
I’m always a little mystified at how quickly people rush to say, “Democrats don’t actually want open borders,” as though the real injustice is the inaccurate description instead of the fact that they don’t.

The result is I don’t watch any of it. You can tell me how good Widows Peak or Beef or The Comeback are and I believe you, but I don’t know what service they’re on and I don’t want to say service and it all feels manipulative and weird so I’m going to watch Lola for the 37th time and go to bed.

This is fair. I was engaging in the same kind of absolutist hyperbole as the OP, and for that I’m sorry. There are some people who use criticism of Israel or of AIPAC as a very convenient way to let their antisemitism out. Those people should be hounded out of all public discourse.

But as a Jewish leftist I agree he's overgenrealizing. Also, not just leftists
