Former public school teacher now living in Colombia. I post lots of bugs and stuff I find interesting about living in Colombia after a lifetime in boring suburban VA. Also follow people w funny handles

Ok. Back to posting cute things. Yeah, that man harassed me, then made sure I could not get a job anywhere else. But now my life is great. I might share with former colleagues who can’t afford to just move away like I did. Reap what you sow. Be nice, y’all.

A dwarf glass frog, Teratohyla spinosa. That’s my thumbnail. The frog is maybe a third of the size of my thumbnail, lime green with translucent skin.

Was wiping an old Mac for recycling & found texts with a former manager. Every comment he made from 2013-2018 when I switched to a new Mac. I filed a harassment complaint in 2019. School chose to fire me and keep him. This is a trove of abusive behavior confessions I couldn’t find at the time.

It is wild to see educators who berated me for promoting Wikipedia as a good starting point for research because it was considered unreliable now go around promoting the use of AI for absolutely everything, including writing IEPs. I’m just out of words.

Welp, it sounded like fun to rent this tiny cabin at the top of a mountain for the night. The moths were amazing. Now that a thunderstorm rolled in I feel like I’m in a disaster movie. It’s raining inside as much as outside and the lightning is wild. I’ll post a pic of the place if I survive.

Hello, I am a TV weatherman in Punxsutawney, PA, and every morning at exactly 6 am my alarm clock blares out “I’ve Got You Babe.” And now the rest of the world is stuck in this endless loop as well.

Morpho butterfly wing. These gorgeous little critters fly like the Count’s bats on Sesame Street. They flap up and down awkwardly like they are attached to a fishing line. They never let me get close enough for a picture, but sometimes birds get them and I find their wings along the path. 🌿🌱

The 1997 Flores settlement says children can only be in immigration detention for 20 days. A new legal filing shows that kids at CoreCivic's detention facility in Dilley, TX have been there as long as 323 days, & includes firsthand accounts of the abuse guards are inflicting on children.

It’s #mothweek and here’s an insanely beautiful moth. These colors and patterns are only visible from the ventral view. The dorsal view shows a pretty plain black and gray moth with a couple of yellow and red dots near its head. Dysschema molesta. 🌱🌿

A moth on a stick showing its abdomen and underwings. The wings look gray abs have yellow, red, and blue patterns.

It's so difficult to get cis people to understand the jk Rowling thing isn't that she doesn't like us so you should punish her. It's if you give her franchise any kind of support you are contributing to trans people being excluded from society

These two are the same insect, 26 minutes apart. The picture on the left is the regular appearance. The one on the right is what the insect looks like after it is scared and produces a chemical that spreads between its body and its elytra. 🌿🌱 #beetle #insect

A side by side composite image of a beetle. The image on the left shows a gold beetle with some reddish iridescence. The one on the right looks blue with a gold spot in the middle. These are tortoise beetles so they have clear elytra that extend well beyond the shape of its body like a helmet.
