Things I and friends have done to calm an angry abusive man from further escalating and killing us or our children: -Smiled -Kept normal schedules in order not to trigger a fight -Appeased with kind acts (cooking, cleaning, favors) -Forced friendly tones and words

This led to many more convictions. As for the abuser returning home? That is up to the victim. They could leave or get a restraining order. Unfortunately, many do not.
Bonus points if the abuser is a cop and all his buddies close ranks around him and then the abused party ends up gaslit, and then also dead.

The first time I drove out of state I had to stop for gas in New Hampshire. I sat in my car for 10 minutes before the guy who worked there came out, saw my license plates, and said “Ohhhhhh” and then pumped my gas for me. Turns out he had daughters my age who grew up in Jersey too.
