A large Vietnamese coffee may not have been the best idea right before my yoga class. They're going to want me to meditate, but I'm probably just going to vibrate my chakras out

[She/They] I'm a thirty-something Chicago freelance photog/photojournalist and classical musician with many pop culture opinions. I love film, video games, and TTRPGs with crunchy math. Would love to develop more local connections (and play board games).
Ken Jennings is a perfect example of someone who *thinks* he's doing allyship properly until he has to take a step back and listen. I'd bet all the money forever that he has no idea why trans folks are mad at him. This should be an object lesson for cis allies.
I sure love *washes hands* cooking. I'm making really *washes hands* good use of my *washes hands* smoker. Tonight we *washes hands* will eat well *washes hands*. The hubby better be *washes hands* happy with the meal I'm preparing. *washes hands*
Rideshare music update: My driver is listening to music on their airpods, and singing along quietly. While I'll never begrudge folks their music enjoyment, it's a wee bit creepy
Everything is bad and bad, but at least I'm lucky enough to live a short walk from views like this.
So so so much scifi throughout the ages has the theme of "we created this technology at the expense of our humanity" and chuds still think that the Art-Stealing Tech would inspire scifi folks
Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude
ITS A TRAP! MORE AFFORDABLE GROCERIES? HIDE FROM THE GROCERY TRAP
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
Finally got around to watching Blood Simple (1985) for the first time. It's a beautifully shot and acted film, and I definitely understand why it's so well respected. It all came down to the score for me, though. It was perfection.
Boss: "why are you walking funny?" Me, NOT thinking: "my yoga class ruined my thigh muscles like I had taken a flogging, but without all the fun" Fuckin whoops
Rideshare music update: Sigh, it's a throwback station and it's playing Time of Your Life by Green Day, then Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson. I'm feeling deeply millennial right now
It's one thing to have a low level understanding of city infrastructure and get mad when you don't like it. But maybe don't broadcast that ignorance Alex Jones style. I think Soren's analysis is spot on. Of course our stormwater infrastructure needs to be updated, cause climate change is a thing.
Among other reasons to sour on Bookclub, co-owner Nick is apparently trying to lead a charge to sue the city over a conspiratorial understanding of stormwater management
I'm so tired but people expect me to put on pants and do things tonight I'm throwing a toddler temper tantrum in my head right now
Rideshare music update: buttrock station played at ear bleeding volume -- Station changed as I wrote this, now we're MAKING OUR WAY DOWNTOWN so loud
I had it pointed out to me again this weekend that it's "no fun" when I bring up politics in a conversation about pop culture. Sorry, I guess.
Yessss, everyone celebrate one of my biggest lit-world crushes, her work is so goooood
“A Penn professor thought she’d sell 1000 copies of her ‘Odyssey’ translation. She sold a million this year alone, thanks to Christopher Nolan.” “West Philly's Emily Wilson, who penned a highly acclaimed translation of the epic poem in 2017, is having a big summer.”
Overall, I love living in Chicago. But one of the downsides is that sometimes you try to get a drink in a bar and get jumpscared by a surprise free stand up comedy show. Don't try and crowd work me, buddy, especially if you refer to me with "hey pink hair, you a lesbian?"
first image on your camera roll that makes you laugh out loud Bonk!

I'm up late playing Silent Hill f, so now is NOT the time for my lights to start flickering in perfectly clear weather.
Everything is a perpetual farce and comedy is dead
Haley Stevens flew a banner over Abdul El-Sayed's Grand Rapids rally. The banner said El-Sayed should "release his PDF." The Stevens campaign edited to images to say "PFD" (personal financial disclosure), posted it online, and got caught. Millions from AIPAC and she can't afford spell check!
Having a bad brain, bad body night. Feeling especially disabled.
Once again, ICE is cops and cops is ICE. That venn diagram is a circle.
ICE agent who killed man in Biddeford identified as former Maine law enforcement officer
An ex-wife told the Press Herald that David Brouillette called her and admitted he was the ICE agent who shot Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero.

I ran screaming from the rural towns I grew up in, and the idea of living in anything less than a major metropolitan area gives me hives. But painting rural areas with this wide of a brush denys credit to the hardworking folks (usually WOC) who are desperately trying to change things for the better
On the flip side, I’ve noticed that many people who are most willing to apologize for the voting and political choices of rural Americans…. are those who have either never actually lived in a rural/GOP area, or are people who are recent-ish transplants from urban/blue areas to rural areas.
