Important letter from UN mandate holders. As I discuss on this @justsecurity podcast, gettings its own house in order on investigating allegations of sexual misconduct against its officials must be prioritized by the #ICC www.justsecurity.org/150425/what-...

What Next at Int’l Criminal Court After the Prosecutor’s Removal?

Ryan Goodman speaks with Rebecca Hamilton and Alex Whiting on the vote to remove Karim Khan as the ICC's chief prosecutor.

I believe in a world where we can achieve accountability for atrocities in Gaza, in Ukraine, in Sudan & other places where the #ICC is active AND make good on the commitments made at the height of #metoo. It is not an either/or.

From the Just Security Podcast, @bechamilton.bsky.social (Rebecca Hamilton) on what has been missing from discussions on the vote to remove Karim Khan as Chief Prosecutor of the ICC. @camanpour.bsky.social

Thank you to career prosecutor Brenda Hollis for this important statement. The quest for justice should never be conflated with a single individual. Behind Karim Khan there was a team of professionals seeking accountability in the Palestine investigation. #ICC

I spoke w @willpavia.bsky.social “My hope is now [that] the hard work ... can really begin..That means institutional reform regarding the processes for investigating sexual misconduct. It means being focused on the pursuit of justice in Gaza, in Ukraine, in Sudan...” www.thetimes.com/us/american-...

ICC chief prosecutor dismissed over alleged sexual misconduct

Karim Khan, who denies harassing an aide, has been ousted after a vote at the United Nations in New York. He held the role for five years

Another appalling editorial from the WSJ this weekend on the #ICC which I won't share. In addition to its support of the US campaign to dismantle the Court, it uses the complainant's full name when she has expressly asked media outlets not to. #metoo

States have voted, overwhelmingly, to remove Karim Khan as ICC Prosecutor: www.reuters.com/world/icc-me... In a world where #metoo often still feels beyond reach, these states did the right thing. Now the hard work of institutional reform & pursuing justice for Gaza & beyond can take center stage.

ICC members dismiss prosecutor Karim Khan, diplomatic sources say

Member states of the International ‌Criminal Court on Friday voted to dismiss Karim Khan as prosecutor following allegations of sexual misconduct, two diplomatic sources told Reuters.

5/ Finally, the ASP can't turn away from central problem that would plague ICC if Khan remains. Core mandate of Office of Prosecutor is to investigate sexual assault, and have victims and groups trust the Office. Yet, here we have ICC Bureau assessment of Prosecutor engaging in sexual misconduct.

3/ Truth sandwich True: The Assembly vote is about the institution’s capacity to function. False: Khan’s supporters misframe question as due process for Khan as a defendant to be punished. True: Just Security article – by @bechamilton.bsky.social and Nema Milaninia – exposes the bogus narrative.

The International Criminal Court has vital work to do. That is why the Assembly of State Parties should now remove the Prosecutor. If not, it will be further downhill for the Court, its staff morale, and global justice. This expert analysis properly frames the question before the vote.⤵️ 1/🧵

FWIW I don't see a legal pathway to an NYPD execution of the arrest warrant and certainly zero prospect of extradition to The Hague. But Netanyahu may follow the same path as Bashir & Putin - avoiding the public scrutiny and speculation by staying home as their peers gather at the UN.

Thanks to NBC for the chance to discuss Mayor Mamdani's comments & the broader significance of an ICC arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on charges of the war crime of starvation and crimes against humanity including murder.

Sadly, it's time to re-up this Q&A by @mikeschmitt.bsky.social, me & @rgoodlaw.bsky.social on targeting & the #Iran war. To be clear it is never lawful to: - target civilians or civilian infrastructure as such - target "dual use" infrastructure to "send a message," punish, or coerce the other side

It is perfectly coherent to champion #metoo AND champion the existence of an ICC. Khan's ongoing tenure harms the ICC's standing. The ASP should vote to remove him & everyone who cares about #neveragain should double down on supporting the Court & its ongoing investigations.
