The Fairy-ring Longhorn Beetle (Pseudovadonia livida) is small and flower loving. An anomaly amongst most longhorns, its larvae developing in soil where Fairy-ring fungus grows, rather than dead wood. Adults love pollen and nectar from umbellifer flowers, as well as they love to mate 💚 🪲 #InsectWeek

When small brown beetles be small brown beetles. Industrial scale genitalia extraction to determine the true differences and help to describe the species better. A heady mix of precise scientific method and inventive use of a vegetable steamer 😎 🧪 🪲

After a hard day’s beetling, beetle rescue on my way home. Ants were moving in but this beautiful lesser stag beetle was lucky to encounter this entomologist tonight. Saved from death by ant or human, delivered back into the undergrowth 🪲
