I'm here for the food and the sports. Please have tacos.

At a point, you can't keep losing games you can't afford to, and can't keep doing it in ways that create horrendous vibes. That's been the recent Shane Beamer era and really seems like it'll be the end of it.

So after listening to an episode with @espnbillc.bsky.social and it being chsime season, I took a crack at the question: what percent of hires succeed? I pulled every hire since 2000 and gave a quick grade of success or failure. The answer: 42 percent succeed docs.google.com/spreadsheets... (Cont)

It's probably Bill C's fault, but I also kind of fell into this. Spreads are interesting because they underlying analytics are interesting, and if one does a bit of small-scale gambling, one quickly learns that the spreads edge vibes a whole heck of a lot, so they're worth knowing about.

Kentucky-South Carolina this week is an example. It's legitimately interesting to me that South Carolina is -3.5 while UK is ranked and Shane Beamer is circling the drain. This is brought to you by me, not by a prediction market (which I've personally said no to like five times this year btw)

Obviously this is good stuff. It also reminds me of 2 questions that live in my head forever. - What share of coaching hires leave a fanbase feeling like it was a success? - How does one see a mid-level performance that flames out? (Maybe Beamer at SC, Odom at Mizzou for @espnbillc.bsky.social)
