Nick is right and there is also a very dangerous assumption here education is the same as training. Academic study is an inheritance owed to our young people and placing it in opposition to "technical skills" is a betrayal of great left wing thinkers such as Orwell and Tressell.

At what age does a young person identify / become identified as one with technical skill vs one with academic skill? So many technical skills have an academic underpinning. So much academic knowledge is redundant with technical skill.

I don't think people are ready for this kind of joke yet.

Why do people assume a technical route doesn't require academic qualifications. If you want to be an engineer and recognised as such in Germany you are going to need an accredited engineering degree amongst other things.

My entire life I’ve never called it the FIFA World Cup. I’ve always called it the World Cup. Fans don’t give a shit about FIFA. If national teams showed up for a World Cup tournament not held by FIFA we would all watch it. World Cup is the brand. FIFA is nothing.

Went to a celidh in a small highland village last night and the money raised was for the local baby and toddler group. The woman doing the announcing proudly said 'we have fifteen in the group now" and there was a great cheer from the locals. So lovely. Hooray for the new people!

"Put it on the curriculum" is almost always a way of just kicking the issue ten years into the future and is morally questionable: the kids of tomorrow will solve our problems.

Prediction: in ten years it'll be Sweden the rest of the education world will be looking to for answers, but by this point they'll have gone back to screens because this is how the world works.
