Lots of people, and fun fire fighting equipment, out and about at Night to Unite! BFD tells me this new boat will be entering service soon, replacing a much smaller inflatable.

T'is the season! Burnsville friends, you can vote in person, as I just did, at City Hall 8a-4:30p through August 10, or you can wait to vote at you usual polling place on August 11, 7a-8p. Full details are here: burnsvillemn.gov/629/Elections Remember to flip your ballot to flip the City Council!
John Oliver with an entertaining, and terrifying, overview of surveillance technology we need to be aware of here in Burnsville. We don't need municipal surveillance tech, and we need tight oversight to make sure private cameras remain private. youtu.be/lnBPhelCdWE
Police Surveillance Technology: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)
John Oliver discusses the tools police are using to keep track of civilians – whether or not they’re suspected of a crime – and some creative ideas about how to use wigs. For those wondering why we stand up and speak out against ICE, there is currently a Burnsville's worth of people in indefinite federal detention - most without trial, many moved frequently to avoid due process. ICE is still here hassling and abducting our neighbors in Burnsville - it needs to stop.
🚨 ICE just published their recent numbers and it's worse than we thought. JUNE: ICE and CBP took 43,138 people. That works out to 1,474 of our neighbors every single day. JULY: 65,765 people are now inside US concentration camps.
As folks skim my lit as it’s handed out, they often ask what Flock cameras are, and why we absolutely must keep them out of Burnsville; this article has some great examples of why - they’re easy to abuse, and even if data sharing agreements or restrictions are in place, they don’t seem to matter.

The City Council Candidate Forum just got posted; while all eight candidates were invited, the only four who bothered showing up were the progressive challengers; our no-comment incumbents lived up to their reputation. youtu.be/FZ3pWO-GlQI

I had a great day working to flip Burnsville's City Council. I knocked doors with Adam Silkey, chatted with Kaela Berg, had lunch with SEIU rideshare drivers, met voters at Burnsville's International Festival, and attended a meet and greet for Peggy Flanagan with Tina Smith and Jess Hanson.
League of Women Voters Dakota County hosted a candidate forum for Burnsville City Council - the four progressives showed up, and our conservative, no-comment incumbents cancelled at the last minute. Perhaps Dan Kealey had some last minute predatory loans to arrange?
If you're looking to connect with fellow progressives south of the river and support the finest public servant I've ever met, please consider joining us tonight in Savage to support Jess Hanson. Details: www.sd55dfl.org/event/help-re...
We've created quite a conundrum for Burnsville's progressive voters - all four of us would be a great choice, but you can only vote for two! Early voting is open now; please do some reading and get out and vote for myself, Tunisia, Cati, and/or Chris! Learn more: bensonforburnsville.com
It's late notice, but if anyone would like to come and chat with progressive candidates for Burnsville City Council, we've got a great opportunity tonight! 2805 Woods Trl S, Burnsville - see you there!
Hey Burnsville! Do you want a voice on City Council from someone who didn't make a career out of being a predatory lender like incumbent Dan Kealey? You're in luck! bensonforburnsville.com
On this Fourth of July, a reminder that we must continue the patriotic duty of demanding better from our government. One of my favorite Americans is William Lloyd Garrison, a non-violent abolitionist who marked Independence Day in 1854 by burning copies of the Fugitive Slave Act & the Constitution.
Yesterday, 33 shackled ICE detainees were flown away from their homes in Minnesota, bringing the week's total to 70, the most since the end of Metro Surge. Stats: ottergoose.net/ice-flights-msp/data
Dan Kealey, who is running for re-election, ignored the City Attorney's advice, and refused to recuse himself last week on a budget vote. Hat tip to fellow progressive Chris John, who is also running for Dan's seat, and shared this through his social channels. www.youtube.com/live/ah4WRA0A...

Burnsville friends, please consider dropping by Pints & Pride tonight, Burnsville Pride's annual fundraiser. 5-8pm at Trove Brewing. I'll be there for a quick check in at 5:00, before heading up to Roseville for a Minnesota 50501 Town Hall, where I'll be discussing my ICE Air monitoring.
I'm proud to have earned the endorsement of the Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters! I was impressed by their training facility in St. Paul, and am committed to supporting working families and responsible growth here in Burnsville.
I'm excited to see another great progressive candidate for Burnsville City Council, Cati Gómez, has thrown her hat into the ring, joining myself and Chris John. Nick: bensonforburnsville.com Cati: gomezforburnsville.com Chris: chrisjohn4burnsville.com

It's a beautiful morning! Fellow dad-corner-friend / campaign manager Dan and I did our first public event today, exchanging many friendly rush hour waves with neighbors here in Burnsville. We'll need your vote in the primary by August 11! Learn more: bensonforburnsville.com
With Daniel Smith joining the race, we have enough candidates to force a primary on August 11 - we're going to need to hit the ground running once the field is finalized next week! If able, I'd appreciate a few dollars to get lit and signage printed, thanks! bensonforburnsville.com
Nick Benson is the hero who has watched ICE load thousands of shackled Minnesotans onto ICE Air, and busted Delta flying Liam Ramos to Dilley. At the risk of being labeled “outside influences,” I’d encourage y’all to contribute to his campaign. 🙏
It’s officially official - I’ve just filed my paperwork at City Hall! I think we need more progressive voices in local politics - if you agree, I’d sure appreciate a contribution - I’ve got to introduce myself to all of our neighbors over the next few months! bensonforburnsville.com

Today, as a volunteer with MN50501, I lead a press conference demanding action from Delta Air Lines, one of Minnesota’s most politically powerful companies, to step up and use their power for good.
Community, labor, and religious leaders just held a press conference in front of one of Delta’s corporate offices in Bloomington, MN. We’re asking Delta to: * Sign the Businesses for Democracy Pledge * Use their lobbying muscle for good * Establish a process to fly released detainees home to MN
