There is pervasive corruption across our healthcare and agricultural systems that defy party lines. I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.

A masterpiece. And it has some of the all-time great John Sayles lines, which is saying a lot. The one that never leaves my mind is David Strathairn as the sheriff saying of a person he dislikes "I wouldn't piss on him if his heart was on fire."

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

I agree that leftists on social media can be too glib about how upsetting it is to see people suffering on the streets. That is, however, roughly 198th on my list of priorities on this issue. "we can't address this until people stop annoying me on the internet" is fucking asinine and *everywhere*

The core argument is that cities like Seattle are so addled by left-wing ideology that they have fallen into dystopia. In reality, the city has never adequately funded harm reduction programs and continues to rely on incarceration to address homelessness. What Powell wants is what we're doing.

Something TNC did which I've seen no other marquee name in Thinkers do, is, he got better over time, not worse. He expanded his horizons in fact, most particularly on Palestinian rights, which I recalled feeling got short shrift talking about Israel's case study in his famed reparations article.

I just recently bumped this up onto my Letterboxd top four. A miracle of independent filmmaking, the labor struggle as a religious calling, the dignity of work and the brotherhood of mankind. It should be taught in schools.
