Got semi-decent camera now and am trying to figure out how it works--specifically doing a tutorial about aperture/depth-of-field. Recruited these two to experiment on
lest you ever doubt yourself: just remember that the man who drew this dog somehow went on to make millions of dollars drawing comics
I can’t get over how bad this Todd McFarlane dog is

Damn... of course the Mariners do a "Jimothy Night" while I'm no longer out on the West Coast. No Jimothy rookie card for me, apparently 😢 russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2026/07/29/j...

Check out the steaming pile of AI garbage that just won $1,000 first prize in the Ohio State Fair poster contest. It's especially tragic since the 5th place, drawn by an actual human, is great. Rooster (OH fair has biggest poultry show in US) riding the "butter cow" (exactly what it sounds like).

Hey, new Michel Rabagliati/Paul book! And it looks like he's changed his cartooning style a bit. Hope this gets an English release. www.ligneclaire.info/michel-rabag...

Interesting... Apparently The Incal was colored by Isabelle Beaumenay-Joannet, Yves Chaland's wife, not Chaland himself (as credited in the book).
I got so exasperated last week with my recently purchased Kindle color that I just ditched it. I was spending hours converting things, trying to figure out how to get, etc. Shouldn't be a battle to get my own legitimately purchased content onto my own device. Replaced it with a Pocketbook Inkpad 4.
Man... what's with The Family Circus being actually funny lately?
I reread Jesse Hamm's almost book-length essay, HAMM ON TOTH, every few years. Genuinely think it's one of the best pieces of writing on the visual aspects of comics. An appreciation of Alex Toth, but also an examination of process of learning, analysis of design, and a love letter to the art form.
Watched the first ep of the new Ghost in the Shell last night. I really liked it. I suspect some of the overt goofiness will throw off purists. (Tho, I'd argue the super-serious tone is from the original anime. The manga has some goofiness to it.) Love the 90's-style animation and character designs!
Trailer's out for THAT POLISH GUY, new documentary about Bill Sienkiewicz. Looks great! www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHjL...

I'm sure this British newspaper that asked me for a few quotes (I assume because of the upcoming new Spider-Man movie) about why Ditko's art is so bizarre and unsettling will be sorry they asked me since this is turning into a War and Peace-length essay.
Fantastic news! Ray Billingsley was a guest at CXC a few years ago and we always stock books by guests to sell on the sales floor... and I was completely aghast that there were literally zero CURTIS books in print.
SDCC D&Q announcement #4: Curtis by Ray Billingsley. A collection of the seminal Black comic strip
My fave quote from that short Otomo documentary: "Real artists don't listen to editors." Hahaha
Nice, but sad, write-up over at TCJ on the end of Bizarro-Wuxtry, truly one of the best comics shops of all time. Written by Athens GA comics sceen staple/Journal of MODOK Studies creator, Robert Newsome. www.tcj.com/heartaches-b...

From today's Flash Gordon. I'm glad that "space buns" have now become a de rigeur SF character design element.
watched the odyssey last night. film ruined by everyone speaking english instead of ancient greek.
Interesting. The author of this biography says directly afterwards that this is an exaggeration, but Jean-Pierre Doinnet claims that Dan O'Bannon basically drew The Long Tomorrow, including the famed cavernous city view, flying squad car, etc. and that Mobius essentially finished his tight pencils.
