Please enjoy this ridiculously cute butterfly, which was about the size of my pinkie fingernail. It's in the butterfly family called metalmarks (Riodinidae). Males, like these, have reduced front legs and perch using only the rear 4 (females can use all 6). Sarota acantus; Costa Rica 🐙🌿 #insects

A spectacular jumping spider from the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. We found a clearing with several of these tiny (around 3 mm.) spiders in the leaf litter. Females are also colorful, but not quite as vibrant. (When I get an ID I'll add it in the comments.) 🐙🌿📷🕷️ #arachnids

Look. At. This. (!). A fungus spore landed on this weevil. Grew inside and caused it to climb to the top of this plant- while the fungus killed it. Consumed its body. Used that energy to shoot up a red fruiting body to release more spores. To zombify more weevils. A mind controlling killer fungus.
