Bracknell Forest Community Climate Action
@bfcca2025.bsky.social
BFCCA is a local charity that helps our community address the climate and biodiversity crisis. Our Vision - Bracknell Forest will work together to live sustainably, making green choices, and we will achieve net zero as close to 2030 as possible.
“These narratives produced concrete policy outcomes: the … dilution and eventual abandonment of the 65% renewable energy obligation, the cancellation of planned building efficiency standards, and a reversal of Germany's position in EU negotiations on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.”
NEW RESEARCH: One German tabloid coined one word. "Heizungshammer" spread to 1,100+ articles and helped to effectively kill Germany's heating law. We analysed 333 BILD articles to trace how tabloid framing became legislation. Out today, open access: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

UK heatwave leave fridges struggling to 'deal with the heat'
Experts say older fridges are failing in hot weather as rising temperatures put them under pressure.

Looking like next week is going to be the next heatwave.
Chances are extremely high of a repeat of this ending heat wave in Europe with another one which looks like its photocopy. This heat wave is already starting in Morocco and Portugal and will spread North and East afterward. France will get the worse, once again.
With heat waves shattering temperature records across the globe, leading to needless deaths, let me just say that history will not look fondly on those who put fossil fuel profits above saving the planet.
Climate change is here, sadly it is causing deaths with the present European heat wave. Vital to move away from fossil fuels as quickly as possible, every EV replacing a petrol engine cuts emissions and in turn reduces harm www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Europe's heatwave 'linked to 1,300 deaths' as more records broken
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that Europe is not prepared for high temperatures.

RECORD YEAR: 2025 was the biggest year ever for renewables. A record 692 GW was added, mostly solar. More importantly, non-fossil sources generated 43% of the world's electricity and fossil generation fell. More in Bright Spots: open.substack.com/pub/janrosen...
Renewables just had their best year ever
2025 was a record year for clean power but still falling short of what is needed

Get Octopus energy to assess your house for a heat pump if you can. The Govt grant is generous. We've been through a winter with ours and it was fine: warm house, plenty of hot water.
On hot sunny days, batteries can ensure that buildings stay cool 24/7 – reducing reliance on costly gas power plants. Batteries, together with smart EV charging and heat pumps, help the EU make the most of wind and solar, while reducing grid strain. ember-energy.org/lat...
It's probably time European journalists wrapped their heads around Heat Index (temp + relative humidity). In high humidity, sweating is less efficient, making heat worse, e.g.: Experiencing 35°C in London UK (70% RH) is more dangerous than 50°C in Phoenix Arizona (15% RH)
Electrifying everything we can gets us a long way to cutting emissions. Domestic heating, mostly from natural gas, is the big challenge.
And yes, this is capacity not generation. The real deal is to change the electricity mix but that is happening too. What capacity data shows is what happens at the margin and is instructive for the speed of change.
NEW ANALYSIS: UK sales of electric vehicles just overtook petrol cars for the first time What's that you say? Something something demand, something something ZEV mandate? Take a look at the data: www.carbonbrief.org/...

A bit of a grim find in my fortune cookie, sadly not wrong, we need to cut emissions and start adapting because climate change is here

Every Summer, on average, is going to be hotter. For Bracknell and other parts of the South East England, we have a difficult week coming up. It is vital to cut carbon emissions and to start adapting. The heat is here!
