🌊 Argo reveals how the ocean helps slow climate change! The ocean absorbs ~25% of our CO₂ emissions, but how that carbon is stored deep below the surface has remained hard to observe. Thanks to Argo, scientists are now uncovering these hidden processes. 🔗 More info: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Second successful deployment of an #Argofloat as part of @george-project.bsky.social #MOOSE2026 cruise on R/V Gaia Blu for #ArgoFrance 🥳 #Argofloats #OceanScience @cnrs.fr @sorbonne-universite.fr
Update from the GEORGE demo mission in the NW Mediterranean & #MOOSE2026 cruise on R/V #GaiaBlu 🚢 On Friday, the second #Argo float of the mission was deployed for long-term autonomous measurements near Lion. Following tradition, the float was signed by crew members before being sent on its way ✍️
These ship-based observations will be compared with data from #Sailbuoy, #Argo floats and #SeaExplorer gliders. The datasets will support the calibration and validation of GEORGE’s pH and pCO₂ sensors. (3/4)
🌊 Argo is watching one of Earth's most important climate systems. The #AMOC could weaken dramatically, with major consequences for Europe and beyond. Argo's autonomous floats are collecting the observations scientists need to detect and understand these changes. 📖 www.bbc.com/news/article...

reversing winds in the El Niño shut down the upwelling of high nitrate water. An El Niño service: the cessation of upwelling also stops bringing high CO2 water to the surface and weakens equatorial CO2 outgassing. One of the largest CO2 inputs to the atmosphere.

An enormous marine heat wave, coupled with a developing El Niño, could increase the risk of coral bleaching, kelp forest stress, harmful algal blooms, food web disruptions, and unprecedented storms. Oceans are sending a clear signal. The question is: are we going to listen? 🌊

AMOC is shaping climate. Evidence suggests it could weaken, disrupting European weather. It is still observed by a recent, fragile, under-dimensioned system, with Argo key. Without sustained ocean observations, we are flying blind on a critical climate component.
