OK, I think I figured out what cameras I'm bringing to CommandFest Toronto: For film, the Yashica Electro 35 GTN. I'll have some color and black-and-white film. For digital, my OM-1 with the beautiful Olympus 45mm f1.2 lens. So, if anyone would like a portrait taken, you've got options!

OK, important WNBA discussion: The Tempo revealed their two (!) mascots last night: Dez the snapping turtle, and Dot the arctic hare. My initial reaction at the game was a little mixed. But, this morning, I'm coming around on Dot and Dez.

I only have it in me to care about one #MTG thing at a time, and the thing I care about now is this: why hasn't Dogged Detective been errata'd to have the Detective creature type? What does this little guy have to do to get his proper professional respect?

The Magic card Dogged Detective, which somehow is a Human Rogue, and not a Detective.

I have a sort of perverse respect for whichever psychopathic asshole at Google realized that bankrupt companies are a great source of consumer data for AI training, because it's not like the bankrupt company gives a shit about what its former customers might think. www.cnn.com/2026/08/18/b...

Google is buying all of Spirit Airlines’ data to feed its AI models | CNN Business

Did you ever fly on Spirit Airlines? Or work there? Or send an email to someone who worked there? Then your information will soon be feeding Google’s artificial intelligence model.

While I'm not committing to full fandom, I decided I should have a Premier League rooting interest, and I'm going with Sunderland because: (1) They're the Black Cats, and their old club badge had this absolute cutie in the middle. (2) Their away kits this year are Elvis themed. Two direct hits.

Computer scientist Margaret Hamilton coined the term “software engineer.” She directed the Software Engineering Division at MIT’s Instrumentation Lab & led development of the on-board flight software for NASA’s Apollo Guidance Computer. She was born #OTD in 1936 & turns 90 today! #WomenInSTEM

Two side-by-side black-and-white photographs of pioneering computer scientist Margaret Hamilton (born August 17, 1936). The left panel features a mature, close-up portrait where Hamilton gazes directly at the viewer with a serene, confident, and reflective expression, framed by her long, dark, slightly silvering hair. The right panel is a famous archival photograph showing a younger Hamilton standing indoors next to a towering stack of bound paper binders containing the Apollo Guidance Computer source code, which she led the development of at MIT. She is smiling broadly and wears a striped, long-sleeved mini dress with dark Mary Jane shoes and glasses, resting her hand proudly on top of the massive column of printed code. The overall composition contrasts her youthful triumph with her enduring legacy, capturing an optimistic, intellectually rigorous mood that highlights her monumental contributions to space exploration.

Crytivo - a full-ass publisher whose catalog includes Prehistoric Kingdom - is offering $12-24k annual (no other benefits except PTO after 6mo) for a full-time mid-level QA role. I'd call it shameful but TBH I think the real problem is the cost of living in the "greatest country in the world".
