Convo at the grocery store: “Do you ride your bike every day?” “Most days.” “I see you with it. In my country, I wasn’t allowed to ride bikes. Because woman. I’m going to learn to ride. When I do, I’m going to tell you.” — Thanks for telling me your story, Bahar. (I live for these moments.)

"This map shows a critical situation... It’s hard to avoid speaking of an ecological breakdown or point of no return for some of France's aquatic environments…When a riverbed dries up completely, almost all aquatic biodiversity—flora & fauna—disappears, with consequences for the entire food chain."

“What's called #PlugInSolar or #BalconySolar is a relatively quiet energy revolution that has begun in countries around the world, in a number of US states across the partisan divide and maybe, just MAYBE if we put our backs into it, right here in Calgary, Alberta (or whichever town you call home).”

Hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing climate fires across Europe and North America. Meanwhile the planet burners are making record profits. And they are hitting up the Canadian taxpayers for $100 billion for another pipeline. www.theguardian.com/business/ng-...

I’m surprised he is going *this* far. He was the UN Special Envoy on Climate Change and Finance. He spoke about golden investment opportunities in renewables. Nothing in his speeches or writing suggested more oil and gas as the key to future prosperity.

Absolutely spot on. The billionaire class is a real threat to the lives and well being of the whole world and they must be taken out one way or another. Tax private wealth over €100m (more than plenty for a luxurious lifestyle) at 100% and imprison anyone found to have hidden away any more than that

As an aside, if any other professionals were as incompetent as certain journalists, they'd be sacked and disbarred. But in the rightwing press, gross incompetence appears to be a qualification. After all, without its bullshitters for hire, how else would capital deny, deflect and distract?

My column on how capital becomes a death cult. Faced with a choice between profit and human life, the radical right chooses profit. Then it tries to persuade us that mass death is what we want. It's the new phase of climate denial: accept your fate, earthlings. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Murderous heat, an endangered food supply, decimated landscapes: embrace the Mediterranean life | George Monbiot

As climate disaster stares us in the face, the radical right says ‘Embrace the Mediterranean life’. Embrace death, more like it, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

It makes far more sense to install air-to-air heat pumps, i.e. air conditioning units that can also heat very efficiently in winter. Portable units are inefficient and almost as expensive. 'Wall-mounted' & 'all-in-one' heat pumps/air cons seem very available: www.aircondirect.co.uk/ct/air-condi...

Britain has run out of air conditioning units After four consecutive heatwaves, warehouses are empty and some portable coolers won't be available until April 2027. www.telegraph.co.uk/business/202...

Which ignores yet more science: "The IPCC warns that relying too much on carbon capture technology represents a major risk to climate safety. The growing consensus is that CCS for oil and gas won’t be enough and costs too much. IPCC research supports that view.” 9/ www.iisd.org/articles/ins...
