Big new @adriftlab.bsky.social paper - we show for the first time that plastics affects seabirds at the POPULATION level. Plastic ingested as a chick reduces recruitment of birds to the breeding population. And the story is pretty grim. 🧵 www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

The first 2026 Breeding Success records have been submitted to SMP! These include positive records for Common Tern and Black-headed Gull. We look forward to seeing more records as the season advances. Don't forget to submit yours! #Seabirds @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social
Earlier this season RSPB Arne kindly allowed us to install a monitoring camera on a branch we know Ospreys like to land on to help us read ring numbers. Last night a Nightjar used it as a song perch just as the full moon was rising. Atmospheric! @peter-purbeck.bsky.social @rspbengland.bsky.social
Recent weather: fog to start, but brightened up to sunny and Green! A Green Warbler was trapped and ringed at the Observatory yesterday morning - if accepted by BBRC this will constitute the first record for the Isle of Man! @manxheritage.bsky.social @manxwildlifetrust.bsky.social #ukbirding
Good work @edjbetteridge.bsky.social and @birdingfox.bsky.social with 2 rare Dorset moths this AM with Dotted Fan-foot and a Scarce Merveille De Jour at @careyssecretgarden.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
Just submitted my 17 AON from Livermere Lake. All sites, big and small, really make an important contribution to SMP. If you see inland breeding gulls and terns, please make an effort to count the number of nests, and ideally young birds and submit to SMP.
We've received data submissions for 16 of the 25 core SMP species in 2026 so far. Currently, Black Guillemot, Fulmar, and Herring Gull form the top three. How long will Black Guillemot hold the top spot!? Don't forget to submit your data! @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social
Into the wetland with the Spoonbill… Both parents feed chicks by regurgitating food. Fledglings (nicknamed teaspoons 😭) grow fast, and their spoon-shaped bills start to form even before they leave the nest. #SpringStories
We will soon be asking for help with re-sighting colour ringed individuals across Wareham Forest and Morden Bog. If you do see any in the meantime and have pictures, please let us know! warehamstonechatras@gmail.com. For more info on Retrapping Adults for Survival- www.bto.org/get-involved...
