New study tests #landsparing vs. #landsharing in six Italian cities: #bird diversity declines with #urban density, while disservices rise. Sparing wins for forest birds—protect #urbangreenspaces at the fringe! Assandri et al. 2025 doi.org/10.1016/j.la...

🌆🕊️ #Birds in cities are not only ecological actors — they are companions, symbols, and neighbors. Our #symposium explores how nature and people shape each other in everyday life, enriching both #science and #society. Join us at #EOU2025 and discover new perspectives! #urbanbirds

Thank you for joining us at the symposium at the #EOU25! Truly inspiring to see how birds support our #mentalhealth and why building #sustainablecities where #people and #birds thrive together is so important! #urban #ornithology @eounion.bsky.social

Excited to present at the #EOU25! Our new #BiologicalConservation study shows how #mountainbirds shift upslope with #climatechange and how #protectedareas are suffering from these changes. Conservation at elevation matters more than ever! 🏔️🕊️ #ornithology #conservation @eounion.bsky.social

Such a great experience presenting the UrBio project at #EOU25!🌿 Always exciting to show how #CitizenScience can improve species detectability, support research, and engage people in discovering and protecting our #Nature! 🐦‍⬛ #UrbanEcology #Conservation @birdlabtorino.bsky.social @eounion.bsky.social

New study on #BirdConservationInternational shows how #snow and mud patches on #skipistes create key spring foraging spots for #birds but artificial snow poses ecological risks. As #climatechange reduces natural snow, sustainable mountain planning is more urgent than ever. 📄 doi.org/10.1017/S095...

New paper out in @globalchangebio.bsky.social! Non-native species & income shape #urbanbird diversity & #ecosystemservices in #Iberia 🐦🏙️ Surprising finding? Lower-income areas provide more bird-related services, thanks in part to non-native species like #parakeets. doi.org/10.1111/gcb....

📚 New study: Alba & Chamberlain 2025 in Biological Conservation #Climatechange is reshaping #Alpine #bird communities, even within #protectedareas. Cold-adapted species are vanishing, while generalists from lower elevations move in. 🔗 doi.org/10.1016/j.bi... 🧊 CTI is rising—protection isn't enough.

Elevational shifts in bird communities reveal the limits of Alpine protected areas under climate change

Mountains are global biodiversity hotspots that are increasingly vulnerable to climate change. In the European Alps, rising temperatures and land-use …

Just back from the Forum Nazionale della Biodiversità 2025 (NBFC) at Milano-Bicocca! We brought contributions on species distribution models, citizen science in cities, bioacoustics, fine-scale urban variables and the luxury effect, of course. 🌍🦋🎧 #urbanecology @birdlabtorino.bsky.social

My last #PhD chapter is published in #IBIS! #Avalanches support diverse bird communities, while #ski-pistes often reduce diversity above the #treeline. Sustainable piste management could help open-habitat #birds in a #climatechange scenario. Read more onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

🎉 Welcome to the new members of the BirdLab! 🐦 We’re thrilled to introduce Fabio Marcolin, Giordano Brambilla, and Valeria Ferrario. 💡 Stay tuned for our research on bird communities and biodiversity! #BirdLab #UrbanEcology #Ornithology #Bioacoustics #FieldEcology #NewTeam #BiodiversityResearch

I’m thrilled to share the launch of the UrbanBEE website! 🐝🌍 Check it out at www.myurbanbee.com. This first month has been intense, but we’ve already connected with many citizen science enthusiasts—and distributed 30 bee hotels in Turin! Excited to see what’s next! 🚀💛 #UrbanBEE #CitizenScience #Bees

@birdlabtorino.bsky.social is in Riga for the #EBCC, kicking things off with some pre-conference #birding! We brought three posters on our #research in urban and mountain #ecology — excited to share and discuss! #ornithology #birdnumbers @migrans.bsky.social

Super happy for the arrival of the bee hotels for the UrbanBEE project launch! 🐝 How cute are they? Solitary bees, we’re ready for you! 🌿✨ @birdlabtorino.bsky.social #BeeHotels #SolitaryBees #CitizenScience #UrbanEcology #UrbanBiodiversity #BiodiversityMonitoring #Turin #Italy
