The other day I thought I’d stumbled across a chunk of Lapis Lazuli pigment, but it was an old torn up dog ball.

In Roman times, Egyptian blue was distributed throughout the Empire in a more or less standardised form of small balls of 15-20 mm in diameter. 🧵 1/2 📷 me 🏺 #archaeology
