Byleth had to do a concentrated effort to not react outwardly to the smell. Fortunately, her relatively placid face probably managed to not betray her shock. She was going to dunk him in soap and warm water next chance she got. And she would scrub him with a sponge until his skin turned pink.

She had even warned her about Dimitri's deceitful ways. Out of... a sense of sisterly care, perhaps? She must have noticed how attached she was growing to him, and wanted to warn her before he did the same to Byleth, now that she was outliving her usefulness Maybe. Byleth wasn't sure of her motives

"How could you just... forget her when you dated and spent such a great time together? When you told her all sorts of sweet lines and then broke her heart?" Byleth's face was now a bright shade of red. How vexing. This was the sort of thing that she hated about Sylvain! How could she be so blind?

Dimitri seemed to be shocked. He seemed to be confused at her implication. He then bowed at her. Called her a lady. He even had the decency to fluster when he seemed to remember the poor woman he had left on the curb. "Do you, now?" She asked, her voice an icy dagger that cut through his pretty act

Then, she decided to just get it over with. Better to hear it from him, than to continue living a lie. "I was told that you're a worse skirt-chaser than Sylvain," she said, gripping her arms, keeping her defenses high. "That you lie and seduce women with a gentlemanly act, and then leave them."

"What do you need to talk about?" she asked, hoping to not make unease apparent. She didn't take his arm, instead she crossed her arms. Better not allow his honeyed mannerisms get the better of her again. She didn't want to be taken for a fool.

Was it true? Byleth knew Dimitri— or at least, she thought she did. She saw some darkness within him when they first met, but she couldn't see how deep it ran. Not until that fateful reunion at dawn. ...Byleth despised thinking that the attention he gave her so readily was easily given to another.

Byleth looked at his arm. Normally, she would have easily taken it. However, she couldn't help but think back on what that lady had said. How she had gone on a date with Dimitri, all that he had promised her... and then, he vanished without a word. 'He's more callous than Sylvain', she had claimed.

"You haven't slept nor eaten in over a day," Byleth almost wished she could slip back into the tepid indiference that had once dominated her life. Almost, but not quite. Even if it was painful to see Dimitri suffering... She sighed. "Now will you listen to me?"

But he would no longer humor such meaningless idleness. He had said so, hadn't he? That Dimitri she had once known was dead. And instead, she had to contend with the man she found atop the Goddess Tower. "At the pace you're going, you'll drop dead in a week," Byleth said. She was just... tired.
