EC report on #MSPD shows #EUOceanGovernance remains fragmented 🌊 The #EUOceanAct is a critical opportunity to fix this, but only if it goes beyond a simple revision of the Directive 👉 seas-at-risk.org/press-releas... #EUOceanAct #OceanGovernance #EUBlueEconomy
Poor implementation of the #CFP continues to harm low-impact fishers. Quotas are required to be allocated using envi & social criteria. Yet large vessels still take the biggest share. It's time Member States fully implement the #CFP! #RethinkFisheries #EUFisheries 🌊 seas-at-risk.org/publications...
This is sad and outrageous! Once again, EU fisheries ministers have chosen short-term gains over long-term responsibility. Despite clear scientific warnings, mackerel quotas have been raised beyond sustainable limits. thefishingdaily.com/eu-fishing-i...

EU countries have been failing repeatedly to implement fisheries laws. That is why fishers suffer so much and that we only have baby fish in our plates. Control regulation is key! @stephen4eu.bsky.social @lowimpactfishing.bsky.social @envi.contexte.com @christopheconte.bsky.social @politico.eu
As EU Commissioner Costas Kadis said, the updated Fisheries Control Regulation was a major achievement. 🚀 Now it's time to follow through - tackling hidden overfishing & ensuring fair fisheries across Europe depends on it. Leadership = delivering on what was agreed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHLu...

🚨🐟 The Common Fisheries Policy doesn’t need reform. It needs implementation. 💪👮 In 2021, the EU Commission itself concluded that the CFP is fit for purpose. What’s failing today is not the policy design, but the lack of political will by countries to apply and enforce it.
Europe doesn’t need a new fisheries policy, just to enforce the one it has. In their new op-ed in @politico.eu, Maria Damanaki & Christodoulos Charalambous warn that reopening the #CommonFisheriesPolicy would slow action, harming fishers & coastal communities. ➡️ www.politico.eu/sponsored-co...

As the UN Ocean Conference is starting, a clear and powerful call by scientists to protect the High Seas from all type of extractions. Yes, including fisheries as most of targeted species can be caught closer to the shore and with low-impact gears and practices. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Why we should protect the high seas from all extraction, forever
Exploitation of the high seas risks doing irreversible damage to biodiversity, climate stability and ocean equity. A consensus must be built now to save them.
