Rod Liddle had a police caution for attacking his pregnant girlfriend. He peddled Rupert Lowe level virulent race hate for the Spectator long before it was fashionable. He wrote about wanting to fuck schoolgirls. To the end he was a bitter, petulant, thin-skinned, needy, angry man. Now he's dead. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A very serious Rural Politico once told me "Dems have to go to farmer meetings! We gotta be where the people are!" I was in fact in a farmer meeting at that very moment! So I live-texted him the meeting. They were complaining that they want indentured workers that they don't have to pay or feed.

There would be more pushback if folks left of center were more serious about outreach. But folks aren't despite the fact that our system does give disproportionate power to rural areas. But instead of taking that as the rules of the game as it exists, and actually organizing, we complain about it.

just said this on another post but it bears repeating: the thing about continuing to give money to any jk rowling properties or the nyt is not that they’re shitty about trans people, which they are. it is that both of these entities MATERIALLY CONTRIBUTE to the legal challenges to trans rights

I love it when middle aged men complain about "cancel culture" when they get told that they suck, but organised networks seeking to get people fired/blacklisted from civic duties is apparently not a a problem and you're being too "sensitive".

Wilson's review was blasted across Icelandic media a cpl of days ago & going through it, while she brings up some good, perceptive points, she then goes & makes several textual claims about the film that are wildly off based, while several obvious artistic choices seem to gave gone over her head.

I do want to pick apart this observation in Emily Wilson's review: "we are not shown that war and killing are bad." This is an odd point to me, given that I found the entire war as presented to be a squalid, poisoned event that has brought everyone involved with it harm despite its glorification

so it's a month to go before classes start and i've now realised that the e-mail i sent to order books was to the University library, *not* the Uni Book Shop. Finger's X'd that i can get an order in today in time for start of class, or end of next month at the latest.

TBH a rule of thumb is that if a protest doesn't cause enough disruption to get noticed it's not a protest so much as a parade. We don't have friendly journalists on retainer at the telegraph so we probably ought to give them something to clutch pearls at.
