Supporter sketch request! This'n asked for anything related to the "Evil Dead" series. Another nice excuse to rewatch a movie I hadn't seen in a while (the 1981 original, that is) and now I'm like, "Man, why am I not watching this movie, like...every day?" Supporter sketch request! Was asked for Nyarlathotep, from the writings of Lovecraft. I could draw any version I wanted, but I decided it would be fun to do my own character design. This sketch is mostly inspired by the appearance of the crawling chaos in "The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath".

He's cradling a cat in one arm, but the cat might be part of him because one of its tails (and it has too many) might be merging as well as entangling with a series of tentacles webbing out from Nyarlathotep's sleeve. There are other things that are wrong with this picture: too many eyelids here, a missing thumb there, too many digits or pupils on a cat's paw or eye, little fractal spirals emanating from tentacles or tails. That boy ain't right.

I had this nutty notion about maybe doing a few two-card puzzle set sketch cards, just for funzies. I've done that sort of thing on a commission basis, but never just on my own, unprompted. So here's Rogue and Gambit.

Why is it called a "cowcatcher" if it is designed to push cows aside rather than catch them? A good question, with an interesting answer. Here are two illustrations, and an article from 1835 (containing the first known use of the term "cow catcher" that I know of) which make the etymology apparent.

"...when in the farther part of Mansfield, they run into a drove of cattle, and soon found that their cow-catcher, which they have wisely placed on their night engine, had gathered together two of the herd, and was proceeding with them at a rapid rate, without any damage to the cars, or the knowledge of the passengers, till the engineer saw his new freight, and stopped to discharge. The cow catcher is a lattice work platform constructed in front of the locomotive, so as to take up it any animal with which it may come in contact."
