It's still a little unclear exactly what happened but it seems like several members of the committee stayed out of the room on purpose in order to sink the vote on SCREEN ACT (without having to go on the record voting against the save the children bill) master classes in bravery we're seeing here
unprompted thought bc of a vid i'm watching don't call AI "clankers" we're much too ready to use something a little too close to a slur for a thing we don't like and i get it it's not sentient but that slope is real slippery when it comes to things, and people, you hate
just remember, people that love their n words and r slurs feel just as justified in their hatred as you do over your hatred for AI it comes from the same place

We @fightforthefuture.org and our growing coalition have been beating back these misguided "protect the children" internet censorship and surveillance bills for literally 10+ years. We're good at it! And we can keep doing it. But to really win on this, we have to radically shift the narrative
The SCREEN Act just failed to pass in the Senate Commerce Committee! 🎉 Enormous thanks to the thousands (!!) of you who told your Senators to vote no! Your voice matters and you should feel good that you made a difference. Obviously, the fight isn't over, but this was an important victory.
#savespeech #stopKOSA Senate Comm. Markup News Bad News: Senate KOSA did pass with democrat support. We all saw this coming though. Unsure on other bills. Good News: Mike Lee's SCREEN Act is dead for now. It failed to pass the bar. Overall, good job fighting. We're far from finished. Keep at it

In the end, it's really good that the SCREEN ACT didn't advance. In a lot of ways that was a more real threat than KOSA, which has been mired in controversy for years and is almost certainly going to die in conference between the House and Senate. But also: we're playing whack-o-mole
To be clear, the Senate version of KOSA passed today is completely different than the House version that passed earlier this year, making it very unlikely to become law. The Senate knows this yet they are committing to the farce of acting on kids safety.
While the SCREEN Act failed in the committee, KOSA did move forward. Contact your senators immediately demanding it be opposed, and keep the pressure up until it comes to a vote in the Senate
The Senate Commerce Committee just passed KOSA out of committee with zero debate & failed to move the SCREEN Act. punchbowl.news/article/tech...
None of us -want- to clog your timelines with this shit. I fucking HATE interrupting dumb horny boob posts with calls to action but like If action isnt taken the boobs will stop entirely like we -cant- ignore this shit, this isnt FUN
Saw a post saying "I don't want NSFW accounts to talk about voting, just let me jack off" Buddy, NSFW artists and sex workers are being constantly attacked by a government of nonces trying to distract from their own crimes by pinning the blame on porn. They have the right to speak up about this.

Four bills up for a Senate vote on Wednesday would push websites and apps to collect more personal information, putting privacy and anonymous access to lawful speech at risk. Tell your Senators to reject them today: www.acteff.org/campaign/16...

I know most of everyone on here couldn't care less about Electronic Arts products, but now you can care EVEN LESS THAN THAT
EA is now owned by Saudi Arabia and Donald Trump's son-in-law
If SCREEN were to pass, you'd be required to scan your face and upload an ID to access this site because it allows "harmful" material. This affects you even if you don't care about sex work or porn.
Mike Lee's SCREEN Act, which heads to Senate Commerce Committee for markup on Wednesday, would expand age verification requirements to a nearly limitless scope of websites, and is supported by the architects of Project 2025.
We all agree children need to be protected from exposure to obscenity and predators. The problem comes in the definition of what "obscenity" and a "predator" is. They think it's anyone pro-LGBTQIA+. They want to "protect" children from exposure TO US. They want to classify our lives as "obscene".
‼️ACTION ALERT: The Senate Commerce Committee is holding “kids safety” circus again, this time considering both KOSA (the Kids Online Safety Act) & SCREEN Act, two of the most dangerous censorship & age verification bills on the table! CALL YOUR LAWMAKERS & TELL THEM TO OPPOSE 📲 248-331-8665
www.badinternetbills.com I have called twice today. You should too " I am X, a us citizen at ZIP CODE, voicing my disaproval for KOSA, the SCREEN act, and the KIDS act, which require invasive intrusions of privacy and risk of identity theft just to use the Internet." That's all you need

Together, these bills would allow Trump’s FTC to wipe abortion, sex ed, & LGBTQ resources off the Internet while instating nationwide age verification requirements. This could mean scanning your face or sending in your government ID just to post on Bluesky! ❌ Take action: fftf.link/bib
