Sunday Bonhoeffer: "Stifter once put it very beautifully: Pain is the holiest angel, who reveals treasures that would otherwise have remained hidden in the depths forever. People have become greater through it than through all the world's joy." Letter to Maria vo Wedemeyer 12 Nov 1943

New issue of The Bonhoeffer Bulletin this Friday!! I'm taking some extra time with this issue as my research uncovered a couple of extra questions I did not expect!
Sunday Bonhoeffer: "It's incredibly nice being able to be outside day after day. And up here we always resolve to move here permanently rather than have the house no longer belong to us someday. You really can't imagine a more restorative vacation." -To his parents from Friedrichsbrunn 12/8/1930
Sunday Bonhoeffer: "I'm convinced that you and I are depriving ourselves of a significant experience if our relationship remains so impersonal. Why not come round to see me sometime? We might not do so badly talking with each other." Bonhoeffer to the student removing notices of his talks 25 Nov 32
The new issue of The Bonhoeffer Bulletin is out! It's late and not the one I planned. open.substack.com/pub/bonhoeff...

Dr. Tobias Korenke, the grand nephew of Klaus and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, spoke and acted out today as the AfD was allowed to place a wreath at the Bendlerblock memorial. (Commerating those who took part in the 20 July 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler's life) I support Dr. Korenke.
Sunday Bonhoeffer: "My Lord Bishop, I must apologize for answering so late. The foggy weather last week kept me in bed and made me absolutely unable to work." Letter to Bishop George Bell 7 January 1935
For this reason, the July issue has been postponed. If I can get one out this month, it might be shorter and sadly without essay.
A second week apology: I am sorry to say that due to a tussle with a kidney stone, I have to give Bonhoeffer Sunday a second miss. I am hoping that regular scheduled posting will resume soon.
I spent the day researching this artist and why Bonhoeffer admired his novels. Do you want to know who the artist was and the answer to why Bonhoeffer liked him so much? Hold tight, the July issue of The Bonhoeffer Bulletin is just over a week away!
Sunday Bonhoeffer: "Things are going well here. Although there is a great deal to do, it is wonderful work, and I am grateful for it. Although things do not look very rosy in the outside world, one should be grateful for each day when we can work, live and be together." Letter to S&W Dreß 27/7/35

Sunday Bonhoeffer: "Afternoon to evening the World Exhibition...The Russians are too pompous, and in addition completely bourgeois. Most of the others too commercialized. Overall no particular impressions." 16 June 1939 diary entry while in New York.
The new May issue of The Bonhoeffer Bulletin is now published! News, reviews, and a short essay on Bonhoeffer and the 1939 New York World's Fair. bonhoefferbulletin.substack.com/p/the-bonhoe...
Working on the May issue of The Bonhoeffer Bulletin, which includes the mini essay, "Bonhoeffer's glimps of the 'World of Tomorrow'!" Hopefully, it will be published this weekend!
Sunday Bonhoeffer: "We had a church excursion yesterday and were outdoors all day, in an area that is famous because at this time of year the whole forest floor is absolutely covered in blue, for hundreds of meters by a kind of bellflower. 1/3
I now have forms to organize my work. My method might be a little odd, but my thoughts are well ordered!! A big thank you to all who subscribed or read the first issue of The Bonhoeffer Bulletin!
Sunday Bonhoeffer: "Once again, how will peace come?Who will call us to peace so that the world will hear, will have to hear? so that all people's may rejoice?" -"The Church and the Peoples of the World" Address to Ecumenical Council of Churches, Fano, 1934
It has taken me a while to write and pluck up the courage to put this out in the world, but The Bonhoeffer Bulletin is now live. It's a little thank you to the wonderful Bonhoeffer community that has been so kind to me as I find my way to where I belong within it. open.substack.com/pub/bonhoeff...

Sunday Bonhoeffer: "Christianity stands or falls with its revolutionary protest against violence, arbitrariness and pride of power and with its apologia for the weak." Sermon on 2 Corinthians 12:9 from London 1934
I finished the opening introduction and closing essay for the first issue of The Bonhoeffer Bulletin. Now, how much of that will make tomorrow's edit... who knows?!? I'm starting to get that excited nervous feeling!
