Huh! All my fellow historians, say it with me "actually, it's a LOT more complicated than that!" Thanks for the great threat, Jake!
this is not true. there was no conspiracy. it didn't matter whether the streetcars were publicly owned (seattle, detroit) or private (los angeles, atlanta). a thread (because i wrote a whole-ass book on this): 1/?
The thing is, there's nothing for Carville to leave from. He's not paying dues to an organization, there's no card for him to symbolically set fire to, there's no room to petulantly storm out of. The United States does not have political parties in any meaningful way.
81-year-old demands political party accomodate him and him alone. www.mediaite.com/media/news/j...
Good morning #IthacaFarmersMarket! It's a grey day, with a strong promise of rain, but it's nice right now; a gentle breeze off the inlet and the noises of vendors setting up. We're in a new booth today, #55! We're still close to the dock with food and wine nearby. Come find us!
Both Smaugust AND AuGhost? It's like the ChristmasBirthday for artists!
Happy haunting, ghostfriends. #AuGhost
I think this is a complicated problem. Yes, there's a value in continuity and moving the world of the IP forward, but 5e brought in a HUGE wave of players who hadn't played before. And there's a big gap between now and 3e. So it's like expecting people to have watched ALL the Marvel material 1/2
Do you think anyone remembers all the work we did on Dragonlance in 3rd edition or do the powers that be just want to keep rebooting things?
this is extremely good, not because I think Harris is likely to be the nominee again but because this is how expanding the Court becomes table stakes for everyone who wants to run for President
Harris Says Supreme Court Should Expand to 13 Justices https://politicalwire.com/2026/07/31/harris-says-supreme-court-should-expand-to-13-justices/
Hmmm. Is our Democrats Learnding? Can these be key elements of the platform for the next 3 elections?
Kamala Harris: I know this is going to be controversial coming from me in particular, we need to revisit the electoral college. We need to revisit the point of expanding the court. We need to revisit, if they so want, statehood for Puerto Rico and D.C.
Looking forward to this! My first actual play experience was in Dark Sun for 2e. I played a cannibalistic halfling with a living weapon!
WotC is bringing DARK SUN back for 5e! Very excited to see what they're doing with it. (For those who don't know: Dark Sun is a D&D campaign setting I designed 35 years ago with Tim Brown, Mary Kirchoff, and Brom.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7T2...
I'm reading @chuckwendig.bsky.social 's _Wayfarers_, and now I want to return to the post- post-apocalytic D&D setting where @risingvandal.bsky.social once inconvenienced a boss monster by destroying a school building with the power of Ozzy Osbourne...
Apparently, the wasps have colonized the compost bed...
I believe, in 1926, my paternal grandfather was an itinerant laborer helping to build the city of FlinFlon, MB. I could probably do that. Later, he would get a series of degrees in entomology and microbiology; I'd be lost there.
Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?
Poor pup; there's thunder today, and she's decided to take that personally. And I can't just stop and hide in the bedroom with her all day; I've got stuff to do. So she's sitting in the office with me.
There's a guy here at the farmers market who I'm pretty sure is a time traveler from Victorian/Edwardian England. He's in boating attire, natty striped overalls and striped shirt, straw boater and perfectly coiffed beard and mustache. He should be punting around Oxford.
Good morning #IthacaFarmersMarket! It's a grey Sunday, and I'm gambling on the weather staying cool (I'm in jeans!) We're back in booth 59, right by the entrance, so I'm expecting good sales or at least lots of traffic. Last time we were in this booth we almost sold out of the critters...
Waiting for the washing machine to finish its spin cycle so I can put stuff in the dryer before we leave. That last minute of spin can take as long as 5 minutes, apparently - the time display is as much a lie as the Dominos pizza tracker.
Good morning #IthacaFarmersMarket! It's kinda perfect today; cool and mostly clear - but WINDY! And, maybe, more cold than cool - I'm in jeans in July! We're back in booth 50, down by the dock. That means we'll have music, perhaps. It's likely to be quiet today; Grassroots Festival this weekend!
I'm reading Sherry Thomas' Lady Sherlock books, and they're ok. Perhaps better than ok. But they suffer from what I've decided to call the Moriarty Problem. Modern Sherlock adaptations are obsessed with Moriarty (and, to a lesser extent, Iris Adler), and that warps the narrative. 1/4
I mean, it's an example of the trope of filming one place but pretending to be somewhere else, and filling in unnecessary details poorly. There was an episode of Warehouse 13 supposedly set in Ithaca, with students at SUNY Ithaca visiting a food truck. (There's no SUNY Ithaca. But there is Cornell!)
"Keffy that's not a trope" I don't care. I hate the word trope anyway, it is a meaningless mouth flapflap to me now. What does anyone mean when they say trope?
I'd go bigger - every teacher ever.
every professor ever on film ever
Tidal offers a Daily Discover playlist (instead of Spotify's weekly discover), which spools out into less curated tracks. Today is heavily CanCon. I've had the Hip, Also Nova, The Northern Pikes, Matthew Good...
I'm working on an enemies to lovers story about two men in the professional musical chairs circuit; I'm going to call it Seated Rivalry. The central trope, naturally, is "There was only one chair."
Someone write a gay, enemies to lovers period romance about footmen in competing families. Call it Heated Livery.
