i believe that framing vote counts as a real time game with swings and momentum is a direct product of how the 2000 election was handled by the media and eventually the supreme court
this is the thing that really bugs me about california's slow vote counting. reporters can't help but describe it in terms of momentum, when it's really scanning across a snapshot
this is going to be the prevailing framing. the problem is that it isn’t true. the dynamics of a party primary, even an open one like michigan has, are completely different from that of a general election, and el-sayed will be running against a man who supports the least popular president ever
Well now we can move on to the part of the election where the centrist Democrats graciously accept their defeat and support the progressive primary winner for the good of party, state and country
Bzzzzzttt. Wrong! One fun thing about being an American is that I can say literally whatever I want whenever I want.
Americans really don’t get to be talking like this anymore
kent county diff both times btw. i hate where i’m from but occasionally i am proud nevertheless
History doesn't repeat, but it often rhymes
🚨🚨 Abdul El Sayed wins the Democratic Senate primary in Michigan, NBC News projects. He defeats Haley Stevens.
it’s interesting to me how this is shaping up to be a west vs. eastern michigan thing. abdul ran up massive numbers in kent county, which anchors the west side of the state. what i wasn’t expecting was that stevens would deliver oakland county so strongly, which contains detroit’s wealthy suburbs

thanks to advances in pharmaceutical technology, my debilitating genetic disease is mostly treatable by taking two pills in the morning and one pill at night. this has probably extended my life expectancy by at least 30 years
So this is basically one of the entry points to becoming a reactionary
i remember talking to an american jewish zionist about israel at a bar a few months back. it started with the normal liberal stuff (netenyahu bad, complicated situation) but eventually she said “we need to defend israel because they all want to kill us.” it’s an article of faith among these people
ive been putting up with some version of this talking point for my entire life. barely even notice it anymore. imagine if i said this about jews though. there will never be peace in the middle east until jews shed their genetic propensity for violence against mohammedeans. imagine anyone saying that
thrilled as i am to see the 9/11 high school gymnastic routine do the rounds again, it doesn’t hold a candle to the 9/11 middle school interpretive dance set to the music of lmfao
i wish there were more publishers as committed to pure fun and whimsy as panic

just had a really upsetting thought: at some point some politicians will begin to turn against large language models and the companies that run them, and those companies will adjust the weightings in said LLMs to propagandize against those politicians
so delighted that so many are getting to experience this video for the first time
Oh my god I think I found the video.
i’ve noticed that “ai” people aren’t just content to use it for personal and work purposes; they also relentlessly bring it into in-person conversation. it’s easily one of the least interesting things to talk about but they are insistent on doing so!
Yea idk how Rogers is going to beat anyone with talking points like this
hey everyone, sorry i’m late! a book fell off the shelf while i was cleaning and while picking it up i accidentally touched the cover page. got trapped in releeshan for like 20 minutes; you know how it is
hey boss. yeah i'm gonna be late again for my job in Myst world, where we live. i forgot which combination of the sixteen valve handwheels in my apartment opens the front door again
there’s something to be written about creators who are currently making money by clout riding high-profile figures of the 2016 new media economy. guys with no original ideas podcasting at the vanguard of political theory from a decade ago and somehow finding an audience in the process
automatically running signal messages through a stranger's AI is, I think, the worst pitch and idea I've ever been cold pitched in my life and that is saying a lot
i will never understand why people post replies like this
Sorry to hear, but that’s an instant block.
i suppose there’s utility in quantifying this stuff, which is why new mexico did this study, but what good does it do under an administration where reality is seen as an unnecessary intrusion to achieving its goals?

The Democratic establishment LOVED this guy, and thought he could be President. Contrast that with how they’ve treated our current Mayor
A video taken Saturday shows former NYC Mayor Eric Adams in sales pitch mode in Wisconsin Rapids, as he's heckled by residents opposed to the data center he's trying to sell them on. "My name is Eric Adams," he begins, as the boos begin to rain down. "You belong in prison!" one attendee shouts.
