JOB ALERT! 3-year postdoc position to work on plant robustness in an interdisciplinary project. Great for somebody with experience who can take a central role, coordinate experiments and co-supervise students, and contribute conceptually. @greenrobust.de @unituebingen.bsky.social Please re-post.
Wise words about the ethics of being a scientist these days from @meauxjuliette.bsky.social #SMBE2026: “Don’t serve the system, serve the community.” Also, it is ok (and healthy!) to feel like an imposter; rather, finding others smarter is a blessing!
Enjoy the coming relatively cool week in Western Europe while it lasts! Forecast for 8 July 🥵.
Thanks to the excellent work of Corinna (PhD student) and Julia (technician) we currently have a huge colony of Vanessa cardui caterpillars (Distelfalter) and a perfect set of #GarlicMustard plants for our upcoming feeding trials comparing tastiness of 80 worldwide populations. So cool to see this!

There is nowhere else in the world (that I am aware of) where phenology has been recorded as regularly as in Kyoto, Japan. Records here of peak cherry blossom bloom go back to the year 812. Those blooms have been getting earlier in recent years due to climate change and urban heat island effects.
Short Kyoto phenology watch Day 1.
The Moray site in Peru. Basically a former research center where the Inka tested climate tolerances of different crop varieties along an artificial 15° temperature gradient from warm crater bottom to windy mountain slope. Very impressive!
Finally, big paper #1 from GrENE-net, the unique distributed Arabidopsis evolution experiment! What an achievement, particularly by Moi, Niek and Francois who conceived the project (in Tübingen), and by the incredibly smart Moi Lab data analysis team: Lucas, Tati, Meixi, Xing and Moi!
